Thanks again for all the advice. I did some shopping last fall and dropped a chunk of change on a tractor though sadly not orange as I originally intended. The more I read on the subject, the more I realized I had to go tier III and not IV. I also went a bit bigger than a B series as I originally was planning. Work has begun, among many other chores. I was able to dig a nice ditch with a middle buster and the loader, which handled the spring thaw and rains just fine. The field is no longer a swamp, and I've begun digging the many 3+ foot boulders out. A lot of work remaining, but looking forward to the day the field is a nice level lawn!

So what did you get, and what steered you there instead of to an L? Of course there's going to be a lot of brand loyalty here, but each of the big brands has its benefits, and collectively that should help keep them all on their toes. I doubt I'll ever get anything bigger than my BX, but I like to ponder all the options that are out there.

"sadly not as orange as I'd liked"....It sounds like a green tractor he bought.

:)

The MAIN reason I went away from kubota was I wanted mid thirty hp Tier III machine. The only leftover tier III's in my area were kioti and NH.

I'm going to keep lurking in this forum though. You can't stop me!

I'd certainly buy a Kioti before I buy anything green...but that's just me.

Update!

Can't believe how long ago I posted here.

Project is underway. Had to build a second detached garage since the old attached one was getting filled QUICK. Wish I went 32x32 instead of 24x24 :(

The roundup was the best idea. I can actually see what I am dealing with. I sprayed the entire field last year, and continue to spray to kill the seasonal vegetation. I'm waiting for it to turn to plain dirt. Slowly but surely the old vegetation is rotting and anything new is getting killed quickly
Last year was record rain all summer and nothing dried. Didnt get a lot done besides spraying. The ditch on the right side came out great. No water in the field from there. With the roundup, I could see how much water was coming from the left side. Unbelievable how muddy it gets in the spring. I'm going to rent a mini excavator late this summer when things set up a bit and dig a proper ditch on the left. After that I'll try to grade the field as much as possible to pitch toward the ditches on both sides. I hope once it's all done and seeded the grass will prevent any soil erosion. Once it gets dry I'll try to start hitting it with the scarifiers and drag up piles of roots and organic matter to burn. Then I'll remove rocks and start the grading. I feel like I'll finish this project in the next ~2 years
