Box Scraper To Move Dirt

Hey Guys,

So I need to open up some more land on our southern Oregon property. We have a M8540. Was looking at a box scraper or this Gannon box with hydraulic for the teeth.

Hard to find used cat 2 implements, so im going to have to drop down to a 1 i believe.

Want either a sb3584* box scraper or this guy has a 7' Gannon box that he wants $800 for. Its a 6 hr drive round trip to northern Ca.



Will that gannon work with our tractor? Seems a good price. Is it worth the hydraulics?

Not sure if thats the best route or was thinking about a hydraulic top link with the 3584 box. The gannon weighs 900# i believe.
The 3584 probably less than that.

Our tractor doesn't have a top link atm, so we have to buy some sort of one either way.

I had a guy come out with a mx5400 and box scraper and he ripped right through the ground easily with his mx. We are 2xs the tractor, so i would think either one would work but the gannon looks more hd.

I’ve never seen a “Gannon” box. Can you show us a side-view?

What I can see of the Gannon looks fine.

From my experience (others may be different) the hydraulic rippers is a nice to have. A hydraulic toplink paired with a boxblade is a huge upgrade from a manual toplink. If you have only one rear remote, I’d skip the Gannon and get a boxblade with manual rippers plus hydraulic toplink. If you have two or more remotes, the Gannon with a hydraulic toplink could be a decent option.

I have a 7’ Rhino that’s similar to the Gannon, it’s closer to 1200-1300 lbs.

The hydraulic rippers are nice but I don’t need them all the time. So usually I’m spending more time lifting them back up as they drift down. Even if you only have one set of remotes you can make shift something to keep them up out of the way.

Definitely recommend a hydraulic top link. I believe mine was under $300.

But if implements are hard to find used get them when they are available. I prefer to buy used depending on the price.

Gannon all the way as long as it is a 7 footer. It is well over 1000lbs. The picture shows a cat 1-2 hitch, so you are good to go. My 6' foot Gannon is right at 1000 lbs.

You need to get a cat 1-2 top link or be prepared to bush down a cat 2 top link.
The tractor end takes a cat 1 (3/4") pin. With the machine's capabilities, you should get a 3" dia cylinder.
Anything smaller and there is a good chance of seal failure.

A good working length for a hydraulic top link for your M8540 is 23 1/4"- 35 1/4".
I highly recommend getting a hydraulic side link also.
If you are grading, you can't beat having all the front-back & left-right adjustments at your fingertips.

Being a 40 series machine, you may not need the check valves as seen in the second picture.

That Gannon new, was last sold for well over $4000. Well worth the 6-hour drive IMO.

Gannon box blades are kind of an industrial blade. They are built Way heavier than other box blades out there and weigh much more. I would buy a Gannon long before I would buy other brands for what you are looking to do.
