I am also new to tractors. I bought a box blade last year to level the 650 foot driveway. I set it so that it was about level and did nothing when dragged, that is the front blade just cleared the surface. Then I shortened the top link until the front blade bit into the gravel surface and accumulated material in the box when moving down the driveway. I have not had to use the teeth to break up the surface as yet, but the blade does a great job on the gravel surface. One I get the center leveled, I lengthen the right side on the three point hitch to lower the box slightly, then go down the right side of the drive and back up the left to create a slight crown for drainage. I have had very good luck running the box blade.
I also picked up a landscape rake this year. I can drag that back and forth and dress up the drive, but it does not even out and fill puddle dips like the box blade can.
