Bought new M5660, cut a front tire, Kubota is NO help

I promised Kubota I would let my story be heard.

Bought my 5660 in January

Last week Bush hogging cut a tire. Local dealers cant find the part number. When they find it, they have to order the whole wheel and tire assembly.

I think its crazy, so I load the tire and start shopping tire dealers. They cant find one either. Finally one does

Meanwhile I agree to order a wheel and tire from Kubota and guess what. 2 month plus backorder.

Kubota Customer Service says sorry thats how it is.

The original Alliance 280 85 R20. R1 ag. Still have the little whiskers on the tread

When you purchased the tractor did you special order it with the radials? They are roughly an 1800 dollar up charge over the standard R1 bias tires most M5660s ship with. That up charge price is for the front and rear tires and wheels not just the front.

The tires are a common size you should be able to find them in your area for around 300~375 a tire.

Shouldn't be any reason you would have to get the wheel they are probably quoting a whole goods part. Which could take some time to get.

You've got the tire size; you can order from anyone that you find has one. No need to wait for months.

One other trick to get back in service quickly when time is money. Find the local guy who repairs ag and industrial tires. Have a boot put in the tire and tube. Even places like Gemplers have boots.

I was going to say boot it. I've seen some real bad cuts fixed enough to get by for a while.

The statement that Kubota is of no help is not entirely true.

If they were of no help, they would've hung up the phone before giving you ANY information.

THEIR suppliers can't cough them up a tire for you, for whatever reason (who knows why?), and Kubota can't make them do anything. All they can do is yell at them--and trust me, they do. It's out of their hands.

Frustration is an understatement, but please attempt understand that sometimes things happen that are completely out of our (and their) control.

The tire can be ordered separately, however finding the correct part number to order is a bear, there are several options on their parts breakdown, and their descriptions are about as clear as mud. Additionally, it's generally cheaper (for some reason) to order the tire & wheel as an assembly. Perhaps shipping costs have something to do with it. Sometimes if a dealer has a load of tractors coming their way, they can call & have another tire/wheel assembly throwed onto the load for no additional shipping cost, and that's the best case scenario. But the downside, it's truck freight....and there's no telling how long it'll take for the truck to get from (in our case) Georgia to where they're going. Sometimes under 24 hours, sometimes a couple weeks. All depends on the load, the driver, and weather & traffic conditions.

Boot the tire. It'll get you by for a while. It may even be possible to boot it and tube it both, in that case it'll get by for a long while.

Ditto on booting the tire. Last yr my Ford 6700 had bald rear tires with side wall cracks & I found a very good used tire for sale locally for $250 for a 18.4X34 tire. Gentleman I purchased tire from told me he had the matching tire with just as good tread he'd give me BUT it had split in sidewall. I said great I'll take it. I had tires mounted boot installed & raked many acres of hay with my Ford with a booted rear tire.

PS: no equipment/automobile manufacturer that I know of warrants tires under normal vehicle warranty

Hkx3, ***8230; as frustrating as this might be for you... Would you blame Kubota if the local dealer didn't have your tractors battery in-stock? ***8230; or light bulb? ***8230; or antifreeze? ***8230; or any other NON-KUBOTA accessory?

Your frustration is in thinking it's a Kubota part. It's not a Kubota part. The only way Kubota the mfr'r carries that item is in a complete wheel assembly and that is backordered because the tire is not a Kubota part!

Your frustration should be with your chain of tire dealers.

If you'd damaged your Kubota wheel... I'd bet your Kubota dealer network would be able to have a new Kubota wheel in your yard overnight.
Of course, then you'd have to mount an aftermarket tire on it.

(My frustration is that Kubota hasn't showed up in a timely fashion to replenish my Kubota's empty diesel fuel tank. Lousy service provider, that Kubota.)

When you've bought automobiles or trucks, did you go back to the dealer and complain to them about your tires needing replaced or when you hit something in the road and damaged it?
No, you go to a tire store and have them fix it or replace it, why do you think your tractor is any different.
Your Kubota dealer is not a tire store.

Did you talk to the sales department to see if they can get you a tire and rim assembly through wholegoods? Usually it is cheaper to order them that way and few parts departments seem to suggest it!
