Blown head gasket L3010; D1503 engine

I have a 2002 L3010 and I believe it over heated and we blew the head gasket. Anyone out there have any experience doing this repair? The tractor has 2300 hrs on it but I’d like to repair it if I think I can do it myself and just pay for parts. I’m somewhat mechanically inclined, rebuilt a couple gas engines for cars, but never worked on a tractor or a Diesel engine. Anything out of the ordinary to make this repair? I’m planning to download the service manual but thought I’d try here first. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Removing the head is a pretty simple and basic task. Remove all the components to get the head bolts out and post some pictures of what you have. Being organized when removing hardware makes it easier when reinstalling.

I draw a large picture of the part being dis-assembled on cardboard, and punch holes in the cardboard in appropriate positions, then stick the bolts in those holes when removed.

If you have worked on cars, your tractor will be a piece of cake. Very little to get out of the way.

Be sure to examine the head for cracks which occur when the engine has been overheated.

The odds of it blowing the head gasket are very slim, The chances that you cracked the head are on the other hand rather great.

Pull the Head and look for cracks between the valves or from a valve to a prechamber.
