Biggest Box Blade for B2601

I've had my B2601 for 3 months, and I'm still waiting on my 48" land Pride box blade. No indication whatsoever when it may arrive.
I did get a 60" Land Pride grading scraper and I like it, but I quickly realized it can't move material around like a box blade would.
I also have a 60" hydraulic angle rear blade which I bought for snow, and it can move some earth, but not really dig, and getting it hung up on roots and stuff seems like too much abuse.
Last, I'm becoming aware of the advantages and disadvantages of wider and narrower implements. Narrower makes it easier to get into some places, but wider can reach further away from the tractor body to get up near buildings/foundations.

So, I think I'm going to want the 48" box blade no matter what, but given the delay, I'm thinking of buying a wider one so that I have something to use now and also more variety for projects.

So given that I'll have the 48" box blade for challenging soils, what would be the biggest I might go for a B2601? The tires are weighted, if that matters, and I'm also pretty sure I'll add top & tilt at some point.
Does it make sense to stray up to 66 or 72", or is that a bad idea?

I had a 60” on my B2601 and that was max width I would go, once box was full of gravel on my road it would slow it down to a standstill if I wasn’t careful. Also the 60” worked well on dirt but I would definitely not go larger, if anything slightly smaller (54”?).

The BB1560 on my B2650 seems just about right. I enjoy the fact that the blade's track easily covers the wheel tracks.

60" has been what I've seen mentioned pretty consistently as the largest option for a B2601. I guess part of my reason asking here is that since I'll already have a 48" box, might there be times when I would be happy having a 66" or 72". I think if I were looking for just one tool, I'd choose a 54" box. Since I've got multiple tools, I'm pondering how big a box I could use with a B2601 while still finding it a valuable part of my operation.

It may be that I end up with a 60" King Kutter simply because that's what I can get immediately for $600 (driving to the next town over). At first I thought I'd order an EA box blade but they're 12 weeks out. Not really sure if King Kutter makes a good box blade.

Has anyone run a box blade larger than 60" on a B series tractor? How is it?

I second this ^^ I have BB1260, I feel like it is too light, and not wide enough. I prob cant have both so I wish it were heavier... or wider. Next bb will not be a 1260.

The one from EA is actually a little less money than the LP and it is 100 pounds heavier, looks really stout.

The 48" LP I have on hold will go on 84 month financing, which makes it very very cheap in my book, and that's one of the reasons I'll probably just go ahead and leave that pending order alone while pondering a second larger one.
EA was going to be my first stop because I like their factory videos and would love to buy that quality, but they're a 3 month wait right now. Their 60" EA extreme weighs about the same as the King Kutter 60" (~450lb), but I see the EA version is nicer ($1012 instead of $595 though).

I think you’re on the right track but I feel like the 48” will be woefully small for 2601. Not enough capacity to work efficiently and not wide enough to fully cover the tracks

Maybe the 54" as someone else recommended. I know they are more difficult to find than the 60" but they do exist. I just got a 60 for my LX2610 and I feel that is the right size for that model. I know the B2601 is a bit lighter and has a bit less displacement so the 54" would seem to be a good choice.

Buy the local one. If it is not heavy enough you can always add weights to it.

I have a 54" LP behind my LX solely because that's what I got when I had the BX, it was able to pull it but I wouldn't want anything larger. I'm sure that would be the ideal size for a 2601. It covers the track behind the LX, just barely, if I had to choose now, it would be a 60" box blade.

I'll ask the dealer if it is even possible to switch the 48 to a 54 at this point.
Pretty sure the 48 would cover the B2601 tires. Tires are maybe 49" at their widest, but the actual ground contact area is smaller - maybe as small as 45" on pavement and wider the more you sink into something.

Another advantage I see to a 48 is that if I'm going to have something hanging on the back of the tractor all the time, I'd rather it be something narrower rather than a wide thing I'll forget about until I hit something with it. Though it seems I mostly like to keep the backhoe on the tractor since I don't much like leaving that sitting around outside (and somehow leaving it mounted to my tractor outside feels better).

I may run and grab that 60" King Kutter for $595 tomorrow. Cheapest closest option that I can get anytime soon and I'll start to get use out of it immediately (would have used it today if I had it).

My B2601 has filled tires and the backhoe frame on it. It's probably a few hundred pounds heavier than an LX without those items. In low gear, I doubt the engine power matters.

I’d go with a reasonable weight 60” box blade. Bush Hog SBX 60 is 490lbs, Woods make a nice similar weight unit, Land Pride makes a 60” in this weight range.

As you stated you need tractor weight and traction.

I box blade UP these hills with a BB1260 60 inch land Pride with a B2620 with no weights or tire ballast. It is sandy loam ground.

I know a guy who simply modified his 48" into 60". Added a 1' wide 'box', similar to adding wings to plows.
His design was simple, easy and FAST. Had 2 'boxwings', either could be used on either side, so 48-60-72 or 'offset' left or right.Cost him $50 in materials and a 1/2 day to make.

Well, I made a 2.5 hour trip yesterday to buy the 60" King Kutter BB60 box blade. Put the forks on and unloaded it from the trailer today, removed the backhoe and installed the 3ph. The box blade is not compatible with my Speeco quick hitch. I tried hammering on it and even ground my quick hitch down a bit, but after an hour it's just not happening. Sigh....what a waste of time. I thought King Kutter was a reputable brand - why are they still making stuff that isn't quick hitch compatible???

I guess I get to figure out Farm & Fleet's return policy now.

Well not really King Kutter's fault. Many including my Kubota (Rad) rear snowblower and the Wallenstein chipper/shredder are not quick hitch compatible.
But what makes it work for me is my BE Quick Hitch has an adjustable top hook. I just have to move my top hook height for my different implements.

Maybe easier for you to replace your quick hitch?

For my new B2601 I got a Land Pride BB1560 box blade, which weighs 428 lbs. I would have gotten a 54" if I could have found one (and also that was heavy).

Partly I wanted the box blade for rear ballast for the loader. I planned for it to stay on almost all the time. I've since gotten a Heavy Hitch and like the compactness, so my maybe it'll be on most of the time.

Now, 60" looks kinda wide on the back and 48" would have looked really small to me. The issue with bigger blades is you can stop a smaller tractor when they're loaded, as some have said.

The best mating I've had was a 60" Bush Hog brand box blade that weighed 500 lbs for my JD970, 33 hp. I don't recall it ever stopping that tractor. Maybe once when I got into heavy roots and bent the blade's ripper teeth.

Best recommendation I can make is make sure it's wider than your rear tire tracks. I have the BB1248 behind my LX2610, and found out just Tuesday that if it doesn't stick out past the outside edge of the rear tires, it's very difficult to widen a cut with it. This is very important if you're planning on cutting any foundations that require tight digging space. Your rear tires will have to ride up on the edge of the previous cut. This means you may wind up using the front bucket for widening the dig, and doing a bit of shovel work too.
