I have an L-4701 brand new with a brand new BH=92 backhoe and the RH stabilizer wont stay up. slowly drops at a rate of about half way to ground in a 10 hr. period. dealer service dept. says this is normal as it is an " open " circuit. is this normal?

Yup, normal. The backhoe will drop too, so pin it. I run a chain across the stabilizers to hold them up in the shop. Don't want them squishing something.

the weird thing is, i called another dealer and the service dept. told me this is not normal and might need a seal kit....

and would this happen on a brand new BH?

100% right. Always pin the bucket when not using the BH. Run a chain across both stabilizers and tie them off to each other to avoid outriggers slow fall to the ground.

My remedy was a piece of chain, custom cut to length, with two attached carabiner clips at both ends. Always handy that way. I fabbed and added an outrigger frame to support a Harbor Freight gray ammo box, attached to the frame off the left floorboard. It nicely holds the chain rug while the tractor is in use.

My BH77 stabilizers take a month or so to get half way to the ground. I think 10 hrs is excessive.

I'd have to agree with quazz. 10 hours would seem excessive to me. Mine will take a few weeks. For extended periods/storage, I use a simple ratchet strap between the two stabilizers. I also close the 3pt valve as well (not sure if that helps or not).

My BH 77 did exactly this when new. One of my stabilizers would drop half way in about 10-12 hours and hit the floor in a day. After two attempts, dealer fixed it. First try was rebuilding the cylinder with no luck. Second try was a replacement cylinder. All is good now, it doesn't move more than 1/2" in months. Other side is the same, almost zero movement.

I'd say something is definitely wrong.

Interesting idea that the movement is "normal".

As a matter of comparison, I have a 1980 Ditch Witch R40 trencher with a digging boom sticking out 6' that includes digging chain, sprockets, etc. When I park the machine with the boom up it will come down to the ground in about 10 days. That's a 1980 hydraulic cylinder that's been resealed one time!!!

I think saying something is "normal" is like saying "It doesn't take long to drive to work. Or I usually don't speed." Only with specific information can you have a comparison.
