Hey guys I have recently bought a '78 B6000E tractor with a bunch of attachments and just installed the belly mower only to notice it didn't cut that well so when I removed it to sharpen blades I noticed the back of the blades were cleaned to bare metal so after closer inspection realized they have been spinning backwards a long time, has anyone else ran into this problem?

Seen it many times on lawn mowers........
Someone took the blades off to sharpen, had too many beers and put them on upside down - which is somewhat easy to do if you dont have a good focus of the trees via the forest.
In your case they ought to still be sharp!

too funnyI think on the B6000 your PTO turn the other way. It's all bass-ackwards! I think you have to come up with a mower to match.

Sadly I'm wondering if D2Cat hit it on the head, the B600 has a reverse rotation of the PTO over all the other Kubota's.
But how is the deck powered? is it a belt drive off the front of the motor or off a Mid PTO drive?
If it's a belt driven it might be a matter of the belt going the wrong way onto the front drive pulley.
Do you have a model # of the mower deck?
Which side is the grass chute on?
If it's a Mid PTO then the deck must be for a reverse rotation model, And No you can not just flip the blades if they are on right as the pitch of the blades are going to be wrong, and the chute and grass path will be wrong for the deck.

I was thinking the same thing about the deck, clockwise when looking from above discharges on the right, ifn it was rev model - the chute should be on the left.....and if that is the case, THOSE blades are on correctly.......
but i have seen grass on push mowers on backwards and still flail the grass!
The blades also say grass side on them, so they are on properly Its a mid mount with a belt from the front pulley PTO that also drives my front snowblower which blows the snow in the right direction really well. Right now the blades spin counter clockwise and the shute is on the right hand side, model is a K-44 from compton california and bolts up directly to the B6000.

dumb question, does the right side chute angle BACK towards the front of the tractor? like all lawnmowers, the chute throws the grass as a continuation of the arc of the blades, if the direction is reversed, the chute opening should point towards the front side of the tractor in order to get the grass to leave the deck.......I must be missing something ..

That is the proper mower for the tractor!
So I'm betting the blades are wrong.
The blades you need look like this picture and here are the part #'s

are you sure its not the way the belt is routed?. I think it should cross itself under the tractor. the different height of the front pullys allows the belt to ''twist'' under it thus changing direction.

I'm having a similar issue with a b8200 hst. found a deck that physically looked correct, had to make a few minor adjustments but when it was all hooked up the blades turn backwards
BK and Chapter are correct, the belt going to the mower should cross. If you look closely, one end of the loop is actually higher than the other to make room for the X so that the belt don't touch.

Caddy issue is not the same as it's a shaft driven mid pto unit not a front PTO belt driven unit.
It is the solutions that are different.
Weapon's solution is easy, flip the belt.
Cost: elbow grease!
Caddy's solution: a hydraulic to pto motor, hose and valves.
Cost $$$$$

NIW, ya beat me to it! Several mowers were made that run backwards to accommodate the bastard PTO's that some of the early greys had. I have a satoh beaver with the reverse PTO rotation, mostly just use it to pull ground driven aerators, But made it fit a cyclone spreader, by turning the fins around, on the spinner. Life gives you lemons, make lemonade... Or better yet pina coladas...
