I recently replaced the alternator on a Kubota B5200 tractor. The existing alternator was original and the tractor is at least 15 years old. The reason for replacing the alternator is that the battery continued to die even though it was about two years old. After replacing the alternator and charging the battery I noticed that the battery light on the instrument panel stays on when the engine is running. In an attempt to isolate the problem I changed out the battery with one from another tractor and the same thing happened. I even put the old alternator back on and again the battery light stayed on.

Does this seem like a faulty battery sensor or is there something else that I should check. Thanks, Todd

Is it an alternator or generator? If it's a generator it may need to be polarized. Have you checked the voltage, what is it?

Was the alternator/generator tested as bad before you relaced it, or did you just assume it was not working or performing "diagnosis by substitution"?
I am not familular with your tractor but it may have a control box which regulates the voltage.Do you have a wiring diagram?
