Battery Replacement

I tried to start my L3940 this weekend but it would not turn over. All the lights on the dash flashed on and off. I checked the battery and the indicator was green but I decided to charge it anyway. After the charge, I put it back in and it still would not turn over. Dash lights flashed again. I used another tractor to jump start it and let it run for awhile. That didn't help either. After I turned it off, it still would not turn over.

So it looks like I'll be buying a new battery. I can't complain I guess because it appears this is the original battery and lasted about 10 years. It is labeled NX110-5MF (80D26R). Does anyone have any suggestions for an alternate replacement battery? It is a pretty tight fit, so the replacement battery measurements would have to be close. I may stay with the original brand since it lasted almost 10 years but they are pricey. Thanks for your input.

Any north american made battery is of good quality,going for the most expensive battery may buy you some longevity but i doubt you will find one that can last 10 years.
I would look at warranty before anything else. 72 month warranty (pro rated) battery may not be as good a deal as you think.
Longest free replacement i have seen is 36 months.

Cranking amps in a group 26 is what will limit you, hard pressed to find one that will have 650 or more cold cranking amps.

Best average life span up here is 6 years,so lets say 120 dollar battery only costs 20 per year.

A battery can seem to take a charge - yet nothing really happens to increase it's ability to start the tractor.

When you take the old battery in for the core (around here it is 10 bucks) note the length,width and height of yours. Sometime finding a battery that will fit in the compartment can be tough, some have lots of room, while others do not. Get the largest CCA battery you can afford - and like TJ said, the warranties arent worth the paper they are written on.....in the small print! I have a battery in my car that is driven every day, the car is 18 years old and the battery is 12 years old! Blows my mind every time it starts!

Never mind - this battery is 2" too long, it is a Group 34.

Seems like they make a battery to fit a hole - unlike days of old where you could stick a huge battery in or a small footprint in..... and yes 800 CCA would do you nicely!
