Ballast Box

Is $300 what I'm going to spend on a ballast box? Wanted to go with a heavy hitch and suitcase weights, but suitcase weights are insanely priced, and I can't find any used ones local to me, or any tanks anyone is getting rid of I could make one out of. Gonna fill it with concrete once I get something.

I bought two ballast boxes from Kubota while taking advantage of 2 implement incentives with two different tractor pruchases. The smaller one, bought for my B3350 is the same one recommended for the BX series. It's been a couple of years but, IIRC, is was well under $300.

FWIW, The Kubota supplied ballast boxes, while well made and well suited to the tractors for which they are recommended, are just that, ballast boxes. You will find no hitch receivers, tool brackets, cubbys, etc,.

There are competitively priced after market ballast boxes available with such conveniences built in.

Of course, it you are a reasonably competent welder/fabricator, you can build your own to suit your spoecific needs.

I found one on Titan that has the door to empty and 2 pipes to hold tools, on sale, after tax was 301 and change and free shipping. My dealer called me also, there is a truck with some PFL1242's on it coming tonight, and he'll stay late for me to come grab a set, about $100 cheaper than everything else I"ve seen, and I think they have a military discount also.

An old drum with a pipe or rod struck through it and filled with sand/concrete/etc would make a simple ballast box.

Papaj I have a couple of the Titan ballast boxes, they also have a 2” receiver hitch at the base. I fill mine with bags of pea gravel, I just put the bags straight in. I think I have about 550 lbs in each. Occasionally I need some gravel and I just grab a bag for my project. They have gone up in price over the last couple of years, I think mine cost early $200’s including shipping, they are still good value

I used weights from a commercial weight building apparatus. I put the weights in an old dirt scoop I had.

You could check with your local scrap iron dealer. They usually have counter weights from oil field pump jacks, or other pieces of equipment laying around. Might find a bargain. My scrapper had some various weights and sold them for .15 a pound (and that was before bargaining began).

I got 1400# of weights for helping my neighbor get them out of someone's basement. I used a 1000# and gave the remainder to a friend.

This was my down and dirty and didn't cost me a cent to build. Angle iron frame, filled it with large concrete paver blocks. May not be professional, but it worked for me.

Yes, it's a Titan. On sale right now. And I need it. I got 4 pallets from a nursery today, and the BX2680 was unstable with just 4 wooden pallets on the forks. I could feel the rear end trying to rise above all the hate and nonsense in the world today. Ballast box should simmer it back down into submission.

I plan on forks down the road so I'll keep it in mind.
