Lookinh for a ballast box for a L3800 with a 524 fel. Tried to look on the kubota pages but for whatever reason could not get the specs or price. Want the one that works off the 3pt hitch. Thanks,Frank

Load your rear tires with ballast (beet juice) and get a heavy box blade or grader. That should add close to 1000 lbs. to your back end. :)

I have the same tractor and loader with loaded rear r 4's and a landpride GS 1560 grading scraper that weighs 511 lbs. On the truck scales at my quarry this package with me on board weighs in at 5,050 lbs. Hope this helps out.

Of course the guy who works for me has a John Deere and 99% of my customers own John Deere , so by chance on Craigslist there was several John Deere ballest boxes for sale. so now I hear 'at least you bought the right ballest box'..I always figured with so many John Deere boxes for sale, the tractors must have gone to hell...

Loaded rear tires are great and recommended, but not the same as counter weight on the 3 pt hitch. Loaded tires will put weight on the ground, counter weight takes weight off the front end and counters the weight of the loader and load in the bucket.

I feel 500 lbs is the minimum needed on the 3 pt for the L3800. 800-1000 lbs is better for serious loader work.

Ballast box does not actually take weight off the front end, it shifts the center balance point of the tractor closer to the rear.

Sorry BAP but I'll have to disagree with your statement.;)
Your right in saying does it make the frond end lighter , well no weight is weight, doesn't make any difference if it's at on the ground or 3" off the ground front end still weighs the same.
But I can put 550lbs on the three point on my B7100 and the center of balance is now on or rear of the rear axle so the front end will float around off the ground with it putting Zero weight to the ground.:D

Like Wolf said, I'll have to disagree with ya. But you are right about shifting the balance point to the rear.

You can add enough weight to the 3 pt hitch to literally bring the front tires off the ground. So yes it does take weight of the front end, but at the same time it moves it to the rear axle.

I was a lot easier and cheaper for me to run a 3/4 inch bar through through the 3 point and load 500 lbs of barbell plates there. Since taking the picture I have rearranged the weights so they are spread more evenly across the bar.

The tires are loaded too on my L3800. The tractor handles very well when moving around... however.... when doing heavy loader work I think I need to add another 200 to 400 lbs back there.

I did about 25 hrs of work with the FEL and I realized I had to stay in 4x4 mode because I was loosing traction in the back as the weight was shifting forward. This was also stressing the front axle. Now if can run in 2x4 unless I am working in mud.
