I have to wonder what the final disposition of the cylinders will be? Possibly reworked and installed on a new unit?

I was wondering the same thing. Guessing they go to engineering for analysis and then to the recycling dumpster. They could send them to me and I will weld new fittings on and put them in my stock pile. Those are some quality cylinders.
...When a warranty repair is completed, Kubota owns the part for 120 days after the date the warranty is paid. Within that 120 days, they may or may not recall the part. When it is recalled, it goes to the divisional offices and/or warranty departments of that division for inspection. What are they looking at? They want to see why the part failed. Engineers as well as techs scrutinze the part(s) for the cause of the failure. Once the failure is determined, normally the part is too far gone to be usable anyway (they dissect every single inch of it) and it goes to either training center of scrap. They simply do not have enough space to keep a bunch of parts. Sometimes there's a high failure rate of a certain part and in cases like that it's almost guaranteed that they'll recall that particular high failure part for inspection. What parts are recalled? The same exact stuff happens in the automotive world.
If 120 days passes, dealer is to destroy the part. Exception: Engine assemblies. Engines are destroyed and it must be documented before new engine can be shipped. Once destroyed they are to be kept 120 days, but afterwards they are to be scrapped and documented so that it can never be used again. EPA rules, not Kubota's.
Why do they do this? To help make their products BETTER. Some say that's BS but it's absolutely true because I've done it. Even just recently I was at a divisional training center and went through/saw/participated in reverse engineering a certain part that was said to be experiencing a higher than normal failure. Problem found-and they were not a factory defect-and all of those parts were deemed scrap and thus destroyed. They are VERY strict about it, too, with documentation that it submitted to corporate, who keeps records of that stuff. Yes...their database must be huge. So is the scrap bin.
They won't remanufacture anything because of liability issues. All scrapped. Dealers who sell used parts also set themselves up for liability issues both with the legal system, with Kubota, and potentially with the consumer. And yes I've known dealers that have done this...

Thanks for the info lugbolt. I suspected as much. In aerospace, we dealt mostly with Air Worthiness Product Safety, (AWPS) and the requirements were even stricter. All defective parts were inspected to determine failure point & cause, then destroyed, and verified destroyed by federal inspectors. We often had to account for every casting, materials (like plate & barstock), hardware, (bolts nuts, washers, etc) optical fiber, etc, from the start to the finished product. They didn't want somebody reworking bad parts into black market aircraft parts & instruments.
Loss of contracts & licenses, fines, and prison time if you got caught cheating.

At the dealership I worked at very few Items were ever requested back by Kubota and I can vouch for going into the mechanics pickup box! I'm retired now and cleaning up my acreage and having to deal with getting rid a lot of Kubota parts I've collected!50% sure they go to a dumpster
and
50% sure they go to the mechanics pickup bed.

Mostly all gone now! Just a bunch of alternators left. I'm experimenting with converting them into BLDC motors for electric bikes!I'll be up there shortly to pick up parts!
We really didn't have a lot of warranty work over the years! If it wasn't for oil changes and setting up new tractors and of course repairing the trade-ins our service department wouldn't have amounted to much!
Obviously the case for most dealerships. Every time I go and visit mine, all they are doing is assembling new Kubota's, no work on any that I see.
I guess Kubota dealerships are like the Maytag washer repairmen...lol

Our office used to be housed in a building w/ the local JD Dealer. The green parts go in the dumpster! (good thing to "drive by" on the way home at night with permission of course!)
