I bought a cheap backup camera and screen setup to mount to the back of my BX and am questioning how to get power to it. There are wires for the camera and wires for the screen. I'm assuming I can splice the two together and connect them to the auxiliary light wires that are by the 3 point hitch but unsure if this will be ok.
Also, I have a cab that will be getting installed in the next month or so and will be having lights added to that. Will they be using those same wires for those lights? If so, will this be a problem?

Thanks in advance.

My understanding is that the back wires are connected to the 20A fuse (as in BX25 series). Your backup camera will use very little power, probably 1A only. I would not worry about adding lights after, especially if you use LED lights. You can power both from that one circuit.

Wire display to ignition, and camera to rear lights. As needed flip on lights and camera comes on automatically. I mounted my camera on my truck cap above window and it is so handy i wonder how i managed without it. 2 clicks down to back under trailer ball, 2 clicks back for regular use. Awesome when im plowing snow.
Anything i would do different? Buy one with a bigger display.

The second one i have i set up to be portable with its own power supply and its used with an app for my iphone. Good for setting on back end of trailer. Range of 100 feet.

Thanks for the feedback guys. That helps a lot. The backup camera on my truck has made hooking up to trailers and whatnot a breeze.
I may go with a larger display in the future but figured I'd try this cheap one for backing up the backhoe and some other implements.

Since I've had the cab installed and it has a switch panel included, I decided I'd like to have the rear light and backup camera wired to its own switch, rather to turn on/off with the lights. Can anyone point me to a link that shows how to do this?
Thanks!

It looks like I could run the power of both the rear LEDs and the backup camera separately through switches to the rear auxiliary power. Is there a need for fuses or anything doing it this way?

Not sure how that is wired but in my experience a 12V panel like that will be supplied with a fused circuit with larger wires (such as 10ga with 30a fuse), then every circuit that comes off of it will have appropriate sized smaller wires and an appropriate sized fuse or circuit breaker.

I was able to open the panel last night and look inside and there is definitely a lot more going on inside than I'd expected. I know squat about wiring but it appears that there are 3 fuses (or maybe relays?) , the rocker switch shown and wires for the front and rear windshield wiper.

With my negligible (read no) experience with running wires, fuses, relays, etc... I was hoping to be able to run the power from the rear auxiliary power available, to two switches (one for rear LEDs and one for the camera) then to the lights/camera. If this is a no-no, please advise.

Thank you.

I will post pictures of the inside this evening.

That switch controls only the forward facing LED lights on the cab. The switches for the front and rear wipers are on the wipers themselves but, otherwise, they are wired similar to the LED lights.

Here's a picture of inside of the panel. On the left is the rocker switch for the LED lights. Directly right are fillers for 3 other switch mounts and above those are fuses (relays?) for the wipers and LED lights.

Those three boxes on the backside of the picture look like circuit breakers. There is probably a button on the other side. If the breaker pops it sticks the button out and you push it back in to reset. It looks like you have empty spaces for more circuit breakers. I would get some of these:https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-HELP-85614-Chair-Adapters/dp/B000COD0QU/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1496842027&sr=8-6&keywords=chair+electrical+connector to tap the power feed to the circuit breakers, and appropriate circuit breaker and rocker switch.

Since it's in a cab you can probably use any circuit breaker and switch you can find, but typically I like to use marine type electrical devices on the tractor, specifically Blue Sea Systems brand.

Looking back at your first picture now, yes those are definitely circuit breakers. Personally I would move the ones for the wipers to the left so that the circuit breaker for each switch in that panel is directly below the switch.

Thanks for the information scdeerslayer. I'll get some circuit breakers and switches ordered.
So I should be able to tap into the supply that is feeding these three circuit breakers/switches? Probably routed to the ignition switch?

I doubt that line comes from the ignition switch, but there may be a relay that is controlled by the ignition switch. I wouldn't worry too much about that as long as it's working, just use those chair connectors I linked to. Take the power wire loose from the circuit breaker, install the chair connector, hook the wire to one of the blades, and get your power supply from the other blade. An alternative would be to crimp both wires into the same connector.

Oh, ok. I think I've got it now. Thanks!
