I used to watch the builds on the wooden boat forum with envy. Looks like that may happen again here.

Thanks.

I reckon, once I eventually get to it, this one will go something like....buy some steel, cut off the bits that don't look like a backhoe, maybe even plasma-cut some bits this time, weld some of the bits together, add some paint, add some hydraulics....hopefully it looks and works something like a backhoe when it's done.

This is the shortened version that doesn't allow for messing up and re-making bits, changing my mind, getting distracted lots of times, so it might take a while.

I think it helps that we have a 40 year old tractor that looks a bit rough. It means that if what I make also looks a bit rough it fits right in.

There is a YouTube channel called "Viny B", he has a video series on building a backhoe that you might watch to get an idea about building one.

You can find the series here: Backhoe Build
Thanks. I've seen Vinny's backhoe design and build videos - very impressive, and very entertaining videos. He also sells plans for his design for which there is a metric and imperial version. His package includes both drawings and DXF files which would be great if you had a CNC laser or plasma cutter.

I'm not sure of the weight of the Viny B design, but it looks a fair bit heavier than the PF Engineering design.
