I hooked up my K650 backhoe today for the first time (first time for me that is). My L245DT 3PT. doesn't seem to be able to lift the hoe or hold it up once I retract the backhoes feet. I've tried multiple things but no luck. Could this be a case of low oil levels in the tractor reservoir? I posted this in maintenance also wasn't sure where it goes.

ON my self contained backhoe the lower 3pt arms are left in the lowest position. The top link is replaced by a straight connection to the tractor. Maybe I'm not understanding your question. Are you saying the hydraulics won't raise the arm(boom) of the backhoe?

Hey guys thanks for the responses.
I solved the problem by replacing a bad o-ring in the O/P cylinder aka 3 PT
speed control. Once I put in a new o-ring it hoisted the backhoe like it
is weightless.

Tallahasee is right.. a backhoe hooked up to a 3ph should not be able to move up and down. It's hard to explain in words but the top link should NOT be your standard rod with pivoting pins in it. It should be a solid bar that is mounted to the back hoe in a non moveable position. The end that hooks up to the tractor should have multiple holes to adjust the angle and heigth of the bh from the ground. When the top link is hooked up this way, it (locks), prevents the bh from moveing up and down while digging. I could not understand how a 3ph bh could work without moveing up and down until I finally had mine mounted.

Forgot one thing. The bh will only move up and down about 1 inch when hooked up this way. Gives you a little wiggle room to get it on and off, but don't attempt to raise it up with the lift arm. The pump will start moaning.

I have the setup you describe with the bar and the multiple holes.
That bar doesn't stop the bh from being lifted though. The pins attaching the bh still act as pivot points. It lifts as easy as any 3pt attachment.
I can take video but not sure how I'd post it.
It lifts up easily out of the way of any ground hazard when using the front end loader. I'll try and post pics.

Once a 3 point hitch backhoe is mounted to the tractor it should not be able to move up or down with the 3 point hitch controls. It needs to be mechanically locked to prevent it from rising up when you try to dig with a down force of the backhoe.

I think you may be missing the triangulating brace as shown in KubotaSam's attached image. To restate the obvious, there is no down force on a 3 point, and if it can rise, it will rise when trying to dig, and could easily injure the operator or damage the equipment. 3 point backhoes are not ideal to start with, and improperly configured 3 point backhoes are an imminent disaster.

my 3 pt backhoe is actually 4 points. top link, lower arms and the receiver hitch. Once its all hooked up, the bh wiggles a little but it won't go up or down with the lift arms.

went to mow this weekend. Hooked up the mower and it was tilted left to right....scratched my head and started looking at the 3 pt and found that the backhoe had bent one of the adjustable stabilizer bars. Bent it back so its somewhere straight and hooked the mower back up. Ground is really hard now, but didn't think I was pushing the BH that hard.
