Parts are due here by the end of the day Tuesday, so I will probably attempt the repair on Wednesday. I'll take some pictures of old and new side by side and see where we are at. . .

Well Gentlemen, we have liftoff!! The parts came in last night and looked identical, except that the shaft was 1 inch longer than the original. I did not let this deter me, I actually am looking forward to having an inch more for leg room under the wheel. It was a bit of a trick to get the timing down on the new ball nut, but I believe we have success. I moved the adjustment screw in about as far as I could to try and take all the play out of the steering wheel which, while the front end was jacked up, didn't seem to do much. I took it out this early afternoon after putting everything back together and it seems to be back to normal. I'm still a little nervous and listen to every little noise it makes with baited breath. It's -2 degrees in the sun here today, so that often makes things creak and pop. Everything seems to be running smoothly, and I am very hopeful that the problem is solved. An interesting note, when I cleaned out the gearbox, I dumped all the gunk out into a pan, ball bearings grime and all. This morning the bottom half inch was frozen up tight. Guess we know without question the culprit now!! I will post the pictures I took as soon as I do some more reading and figure out how, but I want to extend a very big thank you to all who helped out here, especially Service Dept Vic. If you folks ever make it down to Maine, there will be a cold beer waiting for you!! More to come. . .

Congratulations. Great news.-- I think the first thing any one that buys an older used Kubota is to drain the steering box and check for water contamination in the oil.
You should post a list of the parts and the corresponding numbers that worked so others can benefit from your success.

ktaylor,
You can bet that all of us "dozens of other folks" are are anxiously awaiting you results! Sorry you are being the ginny pig. If it works and my rebuilding the ball nut with new balls and tubes does not, I'll be doing the same thing. Thanks.

I bought my 1980 B7100 from a buddy in Sept/Oct 3 years ago. Tractor had sat outdoors for nearly 2 years after he bought his new tractor. 1st cold snap in Nov/Dec went to move the tractor & steering was frozen, never thought to check for water in the box. Thawed it out in the shop (no damage!), drained the box, flushed with WD-40 & filled with new oil/grease. I then drilled the steering column (top, mid & bottom), installed zerk fittings & filled the tube with grease until it oozed out tthe top under the wheel. Did the same to my '47 Ford 8N.

Don't want to confuse this issue, but i need some more info!
I have a B8200 HST 4WD, serial #65086 (stamped into transmission RH side).
Steering went out. Took the ball nut/worm gear into a machine shop, only option then (notice the posting on this thread are relatively new). They repaired the top of the worm gear, but that only lasted 1-1/2 years (now).

I found the exploded parts manual pdf (e-mail me if you want a copy). It shows for serial #'s less than 52927 the replacement part is 67800-41130, current and $170 at several places (Messick's, Golden Eagle, Coleman). For serial #'s 52927 and above (mine) the replacement is 67810-41130, $132.45. at the same places.

I called Golden Eagle because there are no images to verify and was told 67810-41130 is no longer available. The part for the lower serial numbers, 67800-41130 is available, but if I order it and it doesn't work I'm out shippingx2 ($40) plus a 20% restock ($34) for a grand total of $74. I took a couple of phone pictures of my old one and sent it to Golden Eagle but no response yet (that was yesterday). Pics are attached; see worm thread damage at top and 2nd row down.

Does anyone know - will the 67800-41130 fit serial numbers above 52927?
