Hey folks thanks for any suggestions in advance. I love these types of forums for solving problems!:)
I have a B8200 diesel 4wd with standard trans. I know it has been used and abused since it has all the signs. The tractor has always started and ran well. Last month I started it up and the hydraulic pump was making all kinds of noise. Buzzing and vibrating the whole tractor. The vibrations went up in down in frequency with the engine speed. the 3ph would not go up hardly at all unless engine rpms were maxed. I assumed the filter screen was clogged so I pulled that and it was in terrible shape. Cleaned that all out and put it back in and filled the hydraulics back up. Everything seemed to be fine for about an hour. Then the same thing happened again. I thought maybe it needed some more fluid so I added another gallon to the rear fill port under the seat. Not sure if the dipstick reads that section or not. I think i have 3 gallons in there now. So today I start it up to move it and no noise so I think I am good but no hydraulics moving the 3ph either!! Darn it!
Now last week when I was running it for that hour I was draggin trees out of the woods. In the last few minutes of running it all the power just went away and it starting smoking black. Almost like it has a constant load on the engine. I changed the fuel and airfilter today and they were in terrible shape.
So now I have a tractor that smokes black smoke, is hard to start, has no power and has no hydraulics.
The little valve down by my right foot is screwed all the way out and I haven't messed with any other hydraulics at all. I do not have a front loader. In fact I have nothing on the 3ph either and it won't go up and down.

I don't know if all the problems are related or not. But I do know winter is coming fast and my snow blower is over there in the corner laughing at me and my tractor.

Ideas???

Is your 3pt up or down? Reason I ask is, if it is stuck in the up position then you might think it does not work. I would flush the hydraulics again and change all the filters again. You say the screen was a mess, in what way?
Smoking engine could be a dozen different problems but most likely a fuel related problem. Dirty fuel can be a real bugger for causing damage.

It could also be rolling black smoke because the engine is under heavy load. Given the hydraulic issues you are having, perhaps there is a heavy hydraulic load, taxing the engine. I would look for your hydraulic issue, solve that, and then address the engine, if it is still running black.

This little valve down by your foot? Does it have a hex nut head on it. It may be the valve that controls where the hydraulic fluid goes and where it doesn't. From the sound of it you are dead heading your hydraulic pump. In other words fluid is going to that valve and no where else. Which can blow your pump in a hurry. It will also lug your engine down a LOT. Does your hydraulic block look like the one in the picture. The two steel lines are for power steering the nut behind them is the one I was talking about. If it is not in the right position it really screws things up.:D Dusty

Kub- The 3ph will go up and down right now. It will go up very very very very slow. LIke 5 minutes from all the way down to full up. Helps if I rev the engine some. It drops at the normal pace. I do not have an implement on it so I can't really tell if it could lift any weight. The mess on the filter looked like slime. Maybe if there was water congealed with the oil it may have formed this slime.

Hodge-I don't think the hydraulic system is loading the engine because I used the tractor just fine without power problems with the hydraulics not working. Then the power just decreased without warning.

Dusty- That is the valve. The hex that sticks up is backed all the way out. I do not have power steering. I think it has always been backed all the way out. I did not take anything apart or reassemble anything other than the filter assembly which I cleaned with solvent and blew out with an air hose.

Thanks for the replies guys. I noted in another post that someone had mentioned the injection timing. I don't know if that could get out of time or not since I didn't take anything apart.

You guys are great! I remember the guys out in the woods fiddling with my tractor last time I had it running. It was right after we were done draggin logs and I had told them my three point hitch wouldn't come up. Well that must have been when one of them reached down and cranked that little hex head on that valve. Yeah they fixed it alright!! I remember one guy saying "try that!" . I had no idea what he was talking about. I had forgot there was anything he could do with his hands. I was actually thinking it was a good thing he didn't have a wrench or a hammer!!.
So what is the moral of the story here? Don't let the drunks at deer camp twist yer nuts!!

That little valve was cranked right down. As soon as it was loosened the motor came alive and the smoke quit and my 3ph came back to life!!
Thanks alot fellas!!

Excellent....I love cheap simple fixes. I would still flush the hydraulics again. If you had the much crud in there it will need more than one fluid change.
