Hi everyone
Doing the very long drive home and my mind wandered to my tractor.

When it's at idle the battery light comes on and doesn't go off until revs get to about 1200rpm.

I know with our landcruiser the volts and charging capacity jump up considerably around 1200rpm but it's not discharging the battery at idle.

I've been meaning to have a look into it but don't want to go down another rabbit hole. I do have a very special talent for it

Anyway, thanks for having a look

Andrew

Check that the belt is tight and/or not slipping. It may be so old it is tight and slipping.

The operators manual says "if the light continues to glow above idle speeds...".

I think this suggests that it is normal what you are seeing. The work shop manual may have more detailed information but I could not find that for download.

With the worn belt: my tractor had been sitting idle for a while and the new belt lost tension very quickly due to wear. I believe it was the rough surface of the pulleys due to rust. After grinding them smooth the wear problem went away.

Thank you
I will check the pulleys. It has been sitting for quite a while

Hey all,
Finally updating this thread.
Got my self sorted and went through the manual.
Dynamo tested fine, just need to get the revs up to get it going. Never had a vehicle with a dynamo.
Thanks for the help with it.
