My B7510 HST has a little over 100 hours on it and has been properly maintained, however today while mowing with a rear deck finishing mower I ran into a problem. I stopped the tractor and disengaged the PTO so that I could jump off for a second.

After getting back on I pushed in the clutch pedal and moved the PTO engagement lever only to find that it simply moves around freely and feels as if it has disconnected somehow from the internal parts.

The PTO remained off (rear PTO shaft not turning) and nothing I did made it work again. Examination of all parts connected to this lever showed nothing wrong.

After shutting off the tractor I removed the temporay block that allows me to select the higher PTO RPM (for the mid mount PTO shaft). I then started the tractor and moved the lever forward into the higher RPM position and although the lever still felt loose it did engage the higher RPM.

Now the PTO shaft is constantly turning, except while depressing the clutch pedal, in the higher RPM and still can not select the center "OFF" position or the lower RPM position with the lever. It just flops around bother directions as if not connected to anything.

I checked the roll pin that attaches the lever to the sahft coming out of what appears to be the transmission and it is intact and they are connected.

Has anyone ran into the same thing? Or does anyone have an illustration or drawing showing what the shaft connected to this lever goes to?

Thanks, Curt

Also can anyone tell me if there is a service manual that I can purchase that will tell me how to repair this problem?
THanks, Curt

Be sure the roll pin is not cracked, I have seen before that even though it is installed, they do sometimes crack and look ok. Drive the pin out to see if it is in one piece. Otherwise I would think you are looking at splitting the tractor and looking for what part is broken.

Thank you for your suggestion. I placed a small screwdriver through the roll pin, one that went clear through and it still does the same thing. I sure was hoping you were right but I guess its really screwed up.

I spoke with someone at the local (orange) tractor shop and was advised that it will take between 6 to 8 hours of labor to replace that part(s) that is broken (at $60 an hour).

It is suspected that a part related to the PTO CHANGE ARM ASSEMBLY is defective.

Hey, I'm having a very similar problem, I've got an L4200 Kubota, and I was mowing with an Alamo Flail mower and hit a ground hog hole...the mower stopper, tractor still running, PTO stopped too, no odd sounds, regular idle. The hydraulic lift will raise and lower the mower, but the PTO engage lever will not activate the PTO, or tax the idling engine at all...nothing happens. PTO will not engage, it simply does nothing when I move it from "off" to "on", back and forth, nothing...cable is fine, moves the lever on the transmission. PTO shaft, still connected to the tractor, will spin if I move it by hand, and there are no unusual sounds. Any ideas?

I only have an HST 2800 but my PTO cable failed after only 50 hours and yesterday may have failed again. SO my suggestion is to look cloae at it. Seems to be a bad Kubota design

After hitting some deep grasss (nothing out of ordinary though) PTO gearing grinds when engage, so I am hoping it is not engaging fully rather than some damage in transmission. Only 87 hours total!

Tractors runs fine, drive transmission is fine, PTO actually turns quietly when no attached but grind when under torque.
Any ideas?

Thanks
