I have a B 7500 and the other day all my dash gauges pegged and when it does that it wont crank over.

I lifted the cables that go from the dash to starter to the alternator the gauges went back to normal and it will crank, but when it starts and then the gauges peg then it will shut itself down. That makes no sense because to shut it down you pull the fuel shut off.

What could causing these problems??

Thanks Lee

Wild guess ...... it sounds like you have a bad ground somewhere. I don't have a clue why it would cause the engine to shut down though??

I too agree it sounds like you have a bad ground connection, not the main from the battery but the secondary usually around or under the dash.
Does it bog down or just go completely dead?

Wolfman: It does both one time it will bog down and then the next just shut off. I've been looking for a bad ground wire but haven't found anything yet.

Thanks for the comments, the only reason I can think it may be shutting off is maybe when the gauges peg it is sending current to the starter and it's dragging it down. I just put a new starter on it because the old one started dragging when this was happening.

Any clues??
