Hi,

Have a B7200DT that I bought used about 5 years ago. I was recently mowing the yard and the tractor suddenly stopped moving. I noticed that with the engine running and the tractor in gear that the shaft going from the clutch to the transmission is not turning. For this to happen suddenly, the only thing I can think of is the splines on the clutch disc must have stripped out.

I have not split the tractor yet. Will I likely be able to just replace the clutch disc, or will I need the disc and the shaft that goes thru it? I am trying to get the parts ordered in advance. Will not get back to the tractor for another week.

Some of the folks that work on them a lot may be able to tell you what you're likely to find in there, but you won't know until you get it apart. The center of the clutch disk can tear loose from the rest of it as well. We had that happen on an IH 1600 truck.

Well here is what I found. Hub completely stripped out. There was some wear on the splines of the shaft. If this happens again, I will replace both the disc and shaft together. Was a rush job repair just to get the tractor working again. Did not replace the pressure plate, throw out bearing or resurface anything. Clutch engages smoothly and doesn't chatter. Maybe 6-7 hrs total from start to finish to put the new clutch disc in. Disc was an aftermarket one from Amazon.com.
