B7200 rear tires?? tire sizes matter???

Hey Guys,

I have a new to me 87 B7200 that is currently sitting on a set of TURF tires... which look original..... and dont do much for traction or steering for that matter in the snow. They are hard as rock and well well worn to boot...

I intend to be doing a lot of gardening and roto-tilling with the tractor and cooping up dirt with the loader so something aggressive either like an R4 or an R1 AG tire...

So a couple of questions:

1) However I am having trouble finding the size to fit rim! it appears that there are not many tires made in these sizes. any suggestions?

The tire sizes currently on are:
Front: 20.5x8-10
Rears: 31x13.5-15

The tire options appear to be a Carlisle 'Tru Power' AG tire - however further to that the sizes available seem to be limited to a 31x15.5-15 size tire...

2) Which is 2inches wider... Does anyone have any thoughts if that would fit the current rim on the tractor?? And would it fit on the tractor itself? Would be an extra inch on the inside....

3) I spoke with the local dealer and they recommended not changing the overall OD to both the front tires AND the rear tires... Because apparently it can cause some 'tire lock up'???!!! and even wear out the transmission!!!?? WTF

Which really means that I am limited to sticking to the original TURF tires that are on the tractor and only replacing with those...

Does anyone know if there is any truth to that?

Any suggestions??

I would really like to go with a more aggressive tire if possible....

All of us are going through the same thing. Scan a couple of the threads below yours.

There are solutions.

One solution is new wheels.

The problem is the interactual ratio, get it wrong and its going to cost you! We know what Rolling Circumference (RC) we need and the gear ratio (1.464) but can we find front and rear tyres that work? No! You get a good Agri rear but have to go turf on the front.

Well I now have a set on my tractor that meets all the requirements above. They are as follows:
Rear - 29 x 12.50 x 15 (RC = 88 inch @ 15psi) Carlisle TRU POWER
Front - 20 x 8 x 10 (RC = 62 inch @ 25psi) Kenda K378



62 x 1.464 = 90.768 divided by 88 = 1.0314 minus 1 x 100 = 3.14 %

well within the 0-5% lead reccomended by Kubota

I have my rear wheel on order......delivered tomorrow.
I'm picking up my rear tires today.

My old tire heights-
Front-20.5"
Rear- 30.5

I'm increasing both to-
Front- 23"
Rear- 33"

I have already installed the front and I can feel a greater increase in pull from the front, subtle but definite. Yet, no binding.

You are decreasing your rear OD by 2"........what will result? I don't know.

I have worked out the RC of both tires some time ago and I'd have to look up again to show you........but they work out.


It's a hit and miss.....and a chance......

what tires are yours??
and what did you do to get there??

those look like different rims?? what are they from?

and what model tractor is yours?

I would like to get larger tires if anything else for sure!!

My fronts are golf cart wheels. I broke lose the centers and moved them to center the wheel, then rewelded. 12x7s centered cannot be found.
Front tires are Carlisle Trupower 23x8.5x12

Rears are Carlisle 9.5x16 Farm Specialist
Rear wheels are 16x8 Cragars (D window that matches the front)

The Cragers come with - 6 on 4.5 or 6 on 6 lug pattern.

They also come 16.5 x XX width but are 8 lug and will require a new hub to be made.........but this allows for the option of several R4 options in 16.5


What you can do.......standard 16x8 6on6 lug ag wheel.........available anywhere......for rears.
Kubota 6 lug 12x5 is standard and available to you if yours is 6 lug.....but not cheep......about $130 each.

This guy with the Beaver chose the same RC.......same rear tires.....that I have.

This combo will work for you also.

I like the set up that you ended up going with and the rear tires on that beaver...
that looks like a decent setup. I cant seem to find anyone locally that can get those tires... I may have to order them elsewhere.

Wow! thats awesome! Will be much more for me if I can get them here...

You did an awesome job on the tractor by the way!!! I am going to have todo the same thing to mine!!!
I got it for a good price with low hours but it has some dings and leaks and minor issues I have been starting at... replacing hoses and connectors etc... tires and battery next... Then work on cleaning and painting!!

Here are some shots of the tires - all the tires are Bridgestones and all are Turf and very worn as can be seen in the photos.

The front tires are a 6 lug pattern: Currently mounted are 20.5x8-10











The rears are also old and hard as glass: currently mounted are 31x13.5-15

So what I am thinking is:

Front tires:
Carlisle Tru Power - 23x8.5x12
will have to find a rim / or fabricate something??


Rear Tires:
Carlisle 9.5x16 Farm Specialist

Will have to get a 16" rim for those correct?

Yes that sounds right.

Apologies I have a daft question new to these different size ratings and such. when a rim is listed as 7x12... or a tire for that matter is listed as 9.5x16.

What exactly do those dimensions refer to??

I am assuming the 9.5 would be the width of the tire in this case? and the 16 is the diameter of ID of the tire...? so I would need what exactly for a size of a rim in this case?

9.5x16?

Also - has anyone lifted a B7200 by this amount? This would be approximately 1.5" all around and the rear fenders would be closer to the tire at this point.. I will have to measure how much room is physically there.. I think there is enough...

As you said 9.5 would be the width of the tire and 16 is the diameter. You always need the correct rim-width for the tire you want to mount otherwise the rolling circumference of the tire will change. Always use the rim the tire asks for. You get this infos from the tire manufacturer.
