Hi fellows,

I'm in the process of overhauling a new to me B7200, and I'd like to install a hydraulic top link to work a boom pole. The only issue is the hydraulic tap block is up front by the fuel filter bowl, and I'd like to save that tap point for my snowblower lift cylinder anyway. Kubota use to make a tap port kit that replaced the cover over rockshaft pistion, but it's been discontinued.

Is it possible to tap the existing piston cover and install an adjustable flow valve? See attached pic of the cover. I'd say set it so the end of the tap fitting is flush with the inside cover so it cant hit the piston. Does this sound doable, or a good idea?

Don't do it, just tap off the front hydraulic outlet.
You can still use that port for use up front too as you cascade the valves.

If you tap the cylinder as you propose, then you would not have the ability to operate the 3ph lift independently. I'm pretty sure the optional cover would have incorporated a diverter valve, similar to the B7100 setup.

The diverter valve can supply hydraulics in place of the 3ph. Operation is still controlled by the 3ph control lever and the diverter valve cannot be operated while there is weight hanging on the 3ph. If your boom pole is going to be independently supported and just towed with the drawbar, then maybe a diverter valve would work, but if you plan to carry it with the 3ph, you need independent control, IMHO.

Thanks for the reply guys.

I misunderstood the usage of the rear tap. My B7100 has one on it, and I thought about swapping it onto the B7200, but the port exits on the incorrect side. I thought it was as simple as install the tap port, run it to a spool valve, and voila! Now it see that isn't the case.

I'm building this tractor for the purpose of log dragging and winching, which is what I use my B7100 for.

Last question, what do you think is the smallest diameter hydrallic hose i can run back to the spool valve? The book says max 2060psi and 4 gal (per min I assume) flow rate. I want to tuck the hoses out of the way as much as possible.

You can use 1/4 to 3/8 just make sure the hydraulic hose is rated for 2500PSI or greater.

I need your opinion on one more issue if ya don't mind. I'm in the final stages of getting this B7200 back together and I want to install a much, much larger battery. I have a Badlands 9K winch I use that draws several hundred amps worth of current, so I need as much battery as I can get. I'm also replacing the tiny dynamo with a 60A denso alternator. I'm getting a marine style battery so I can wire the winch directly to the screw posts.

The issue I'm afraid I'm going to have is radiator airflow restriction. I threw in a spare battery that's the same height and depth as the one I have ordered, but the new one is wider (10 3/4'' wide). I suspect this will cover over 50% of the radiator with maybe 1/4'' gap between the fins and battery case.

Just to be on the safe side, I installed a set of water temp, oil press, and voltage gauges just so I can monitor engine vitals.

Think I might have overheating issues?

Yes that is a lot of blockage, any chance at finding a narrower battery?

If not then yes keep a keen eye on the temps and fluid levels! ;)

I think not only would the radiator be prone to overheating, so would the battery!

Thanks to the unideal size Kubota made the battery tray, there aren't any standard US group size batteries of decent output that fit well. They all seem to be around 7'' deep. I may try to see if I can somehow extend the tray, but the hood mounts to it, so I'd have to compensate for that.

Torch, it never really crossed my mind that the heat from the radiator may bleed over to the battery. I sure hope not!!

Any ideal what the operating temp is for the D-950? I assume like a car (somewhere around 180-210F?)

I don't feel you will have any issues at all with that battery placement.

I have an Italian tractor with the fuel tank blocking the entire area of the radiator. It works just fine,

I would go for it, especially as you have added the gauges.

Of course my bias is living in Vermont, land of perpetual winter ;-)
