I ran out of fuel. I have many times in the past. I filled the tank and bled the fuel. The tractor would start rough but never accelerate RPM's. Hours later I gave up and ordered a fuel filter and assembly. It cam in today. I drained the fuel replaced with new fuel replaced the filter assembly. I bleed at the filter, then bellow the injectors at the last fuel line. moved up to the injectors. I can get the tractor running but it never will accelerate. and sometimes dies. I have tried bleeding lots of times. What should I try next??

It's very possible that you've sucked debri into the Injection pump or the injector.

You might need to have the injection pump cleaned / rebuilt and you might need to also have the injectors cleaned and or just replaced.

Mostly wide open since it won't run at an idle. Does it make a difference?

Hows the fuel flow from the tank...may want to blow back into the tank to make sure thats clear.

It turns out it was the lift pump. I bypassed the lift pump with a electric pump and it fired up after bleeding just fine. So I just need to order a pump. Any reason not to leave a electric pump on it?

The mechanical pump lasted for 35 years, the electric one will not. One more thing to draw current if you leave the key switch one.

Agree 100% with whitetiger. The cheapest mechanical pump will outlast the best electric pump. If you ever owned a 12V and 24V Cummins, you'd know this well haha.
