REFERENCE: Fellenz and discussion at: https://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/threads/b7200-fuel-in-oil.14755/

I am new to this forum, but have been following for a few years. I now have a situation that has me stumped, and a $500.00+ investment without resolution.

I’ve read through the above referenced discussion several times. It all seems to make sense, so I followed the advise and first replaced the lift pump. I ran the engine and worked the tractor for a while and found that it was making more oil. I did some more research and came to the same conclusion that Erik Fellenz came to it must be the injection pump. Erik's post ended but I continued with his train of thought.

I went out and bought a rebuilt injection pump. I installed the new, to me, injection pump, bled the fuel lines, fired up the glow plugs, and she started right up! I worked the tractor for a while and guess what? Well, it appears to still be making oil.

Can anyone give me an idea as to where the additional liquid is coming from? I can not believe it is water. The radiator is full, and I know what water looks like in a crankcase. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Ed Potthoff

I do believe that there are a few threads on this site that address the seal on the hydraulic pump on some models and the hydraulic fluid is leaking past the pump seal and filling the crankcase.

tthorkil,

in my post I refer to the previous threads that address the pump seal. I have replaced both the lift pump and the injection pump, but I still have fuel going into the engine oil.

tthorkil,

I just reread your post and I missed the "hydraulic" pump as opposed the fuel pumps. I will look for the posts you mentioned.

Thanks,

Ed

tthorkil,

I just checked out the site you suggested and looked up the pump seal. It's $9.90. If that turns out to be the problem/solution, I have a spare lift pump and injection pump! I wonder what I can get for them on Ebay?

Thanks,

Ed

Hey Ed, can you post a photo of your spare hydraulic pump. I have a B7200HST that I can get to stop leaking on the ports. I know in a past life the pumps thread where striped and helix coils where used. I've used multi types of crush washers on mine.

Berry,

I don't have a spare spare hydraulic pump. I only have a spare lift pump and injection pump.

I'm not sure if you are giving me a pointer on how to fix my hydraulic pump, but I'm listening.

Sorry I thought yours was a hydraulic pump. Those seals can leak into the engine lock as well. I'm not sure 2hat the lift ump is. My leaks are in the line connection with the crush washers not the seals. I am curious though. Have you checked your hydraulic oil level. If it's a hydraulic issue you have leaking into the engine oil, hydraulic should go down as the oil level goes up.

Berry,

I have admitted enough dumb errors for one day, but what's one or two more? Yes, my hydraulic fluid is leaking, but I attributed that to the leaking hoses and cylinders. :(

I am not understanding what you mean by your "leaks are in the line connection with the crush washers not the seals." Can you explain the line connections and the crush washers and are they related to the hydraulic pump?

(BTW The lift pump is the low pressure fuel pump.)

A hydraulic pump on the tractor usually has a shaft driven by the engine. That shaft has a seal to keep the hydraulic fluid in the pump and out of the engine. Then the pump has an intake and outlet line for the pumped hydraulic fluid. Both lines will have some type of way to seal the fluid from leaking. Mine used o rings not crush washers.

If you have leaking oil on the lines, you may want to get brand new sealing washers or O-Rings and replace the bolts with new ones by the part numbers so you know that they are not able to bottom out in the holes.

You need to worry about the seal on the shaft leaking hydraulic fluid into the engine oil sump. While fixing that problem you’re going to remove the pump from the engine so you may want to replace all of the o rings on the pump and inlet and outlet lines where they connect to the pump.

These seal issues on the pump seem to be quite common. Replaced mine about five years ago after finding the issue as well from an increase in engine oil level over time. I opted to replace my pump completely as the mating surface of the drive coupling was very worn.

Berry, Russell, and Donystoy,

Thanks for your replies to my issues. You all have given me a new perspective to addressing the oil level issues with my B7200. The issue I have is hydraulic fluid and not diesel fuel (and if it was both, I've already addressed to diesel fuel). It sure would have been easier to have looked into all possibilities before buying parts. My error. On Monday, I will be going to my local Kubota dealer and seeing if they have to seals, o-rings and bolts to fix the hydraulic pump.

I’ll let you know how it goes, and thanks for all the insight.

Best,

Ed

Yes I can, so I had some problems with my hydraulic pump and had to remove from the engine. The hydraulic pump mounts right into the engine. On one side of the pumps seal is Hydraulic and on the other is engine oil. When I re- installed my pump, I worried about my output seal thinking the hydraulic oil could contaminate my engine oil. Anyway, when I reconnect the hydraulic pump, the input and output lines have a banjo fittings using crush washers to seal between the pipe connection. (This would have nothing to do with engine oil). I have tried a different crush washer that incorporates a lip seal and this has not repaired my external leak. I'm thinking I have an issue that has been created by the helix coils that either are not straight or the surfaces must be cleaned better. Hope that answers your question.

P.S. on my pump and parts Breakdown the intake seals (suction lines) are o rings. The discharge which is under high pressure are crush washers. Up here, I would be surprised if my Kubota dealer had the shaft seal. They swam to want to sell the complete pump. Anyway , any bearing or seal house should sell the seal separately. I always buy two in case I screw it up.
