Hey all, my last thread I had open went dead. I'm hoping you guys can help me out. I royally F'd up the new seal I got for my crankshaft leak. I ordered another and I might need a new crankshaft collar as well. *sigh*

Thank you to IWM, who originally told me there was also an O-ring that should be replaced.. Yup it was toast. Dried out and nearly split in two pieces.

My question is, does the concaved groove on the crank collar face in towards the engine, or does the flat side? I kinda went rouge after I accidentally pushed the new seal in too far and damaged it while pulling it back out. Now I'm second guessing myself. Irish rage-what can I say. Thanks everyone.

It looks to me like the concave side of the collar is to provide a home for the O ring so it should face towards the inside of the engine.

#170 is a oil slinger so clearly the design is trying to stop oil migrating along the crank to the front of the engine hence the O ring in addition to the slinger.

If the collar was facing outwards the O ring would just be crushed.

Dave is correct, the chamfer goes in toward the engine against the o-ring.
