A couple of tips from my experience:

First, on any chain or cable, lay your jacket, or a blanket over, it, when pulling. Any upward energy that a snapped chain or cable has in it, when it breaks, will be absorbed by the covering, and the chain or cable drops to the ground.

Second, expect the unexpected: https://youtu.be/_vE9Zq7Gs-U :D

Here's something to be aware of. "Hook from the Bottom. Make sure the tip of the hook faces up. If it breaks or comes off while pulling, it will fall toward the ground instead up through the air."

Most lay the hook in from the top thinking that is won't fall out as they tighten the chain.

Those are some great tips guys, didn't know the one about the hook D2, thanks for sharing.

I took some more pics that I though I would share. This is the culprit that got me stuck... The well overflows most of the year, usually stops in August if it is really dry.

The well is covered with a two layers of heavy planks and surrounded by the chain link fence. That is the remnants of an old concrete watering tub that was fed from the overflow for the cows. It's really old, but not sure exactly how old.

This is where the water comes out, it's my dogs favorite place to take a mud bath :p

Here are a few before pics of where I did a majority of the cutting. It was filled with maple saplings. I took small bites at it and had to go over the spots a few times to get a nice clean cut. It did a hell of a job for an old little tractor!

A good shot of the finished product. I still have a little more to cut down in the distance of the pic, but that is a steep little hill that I have to attack with the blade.
