Thanks for all of the help getting to the bottom of this. The yoke clearly needs to be replaced, I don't know if the picture shows stops or not but I do know I can't get anything past that point. Now I am trying to figure out what size yoke I need, measuring top of cap to top of cap I get 56mm, cap diameter I get 24mm. These measurements don't match up to any of the series measurements I have found. Any ideas on what size yoke I need?

As luck would have it, it i a series 6 standard yoke which is about $50. I can get a whole new shaft for $90. It is only on a 17 horse tractor but I am skeptical of a $90 shaft, the one I have is a good American made unit, I am sure the $90 one is a cheap china made unit. Any suggestions?

I'm going to guess your yoke is welded to the shaft, Just buy it complete, welding on a new yoke to and old shaft without the proper equipment is tough!
90% of all steel comes out of China, look around this country you don't find many steel mills any more!;)

It isn't welded on, it is the yoke that connects to the tractor, it just has to be pressed on the cross bearing, the next yoke back is welded on the shaft. My instinct is to keep the heavy solid American steel shaft but then again that is throwing money at a 36 year old shaft that might have other issues.

Sorry was thinking it was the other side of the yoke.
You should be fine just replacing the yoke, but I would do the cross at the same time!
With a new yoke and bearings you should be golden!
