Hi guys.

A couple of years back I bought a secondhand B7100DT in a private sale. I now have a problem in that it has stripped two teeth of the larger reduction gear in the front left hub.

I contacted Kubota Australia wanting to get a replacement part but when I gave them the serial number, B7001-65037, they told me it was a grey import, of which I was unaware, and that they weren't interested in helping me.

I understand that there are two different part numbers for this gear depending on tractor serial number, ( a local dealer was at least that much help). Does anyone know what the difference is between the two gears? They are both listed as 25 teeth but give no other specifications?

If anyone can help I would be very grateful. If anyone can help me out with year and country of original sale from the serial number that might help too.

In my parts book the change on a B7100 was from serial no :55455 and above.I do not know what the physical difference is but it weights slightly less.

As I understand it, all B7100's have a B7001 serial number, this could be the issue. However, there should be no need to supply the serial number of your unit to purchase parts. The dealers are not the 'grey market police'. Your money should be as good as anyone else's. We just have to get the correct 'version'

It is probably time to find a new dealer or order parts online.

I have service manuals for B7100D, B7100HST-D and B7100HST-E, and have parts manuals for B7100HST-D Old type, and B7100HST-D New type. I have no idea what distinguishes one from the other, but if it helps any, I can get you the links to these if you send me a private message or e-mail.

Thanks Stuart, Dave, post above, has emailed me the parts manual for the B7100DT and from it the only parts in the hub assembly that have dual serial numbers are the two gears, all the other bearings seals, splines etc are the same so worst case I may have to order both gears. I have found a dealer with one large gear in stock but haven't been able to check with them yet as to whether it is the early series or late. I will be in touch with them first thing Monday so hopefully she will be back at work this week.

Hi guys,
Thanks for all your help and especially to Dave for the parts manual. I got my replacement spur gear today and fitted it in about 15 minutes. The difference in the gears between high and low serial number B7100 is only a machined slot on each face of the gear, possibly to improve oil flow to the bearings? Apart from that all dimensions, splines, offsets etc are the same and they are interchangeable if anyone ever needs to replace one.

Hi Trev,

hope your 'grey' orange unit is now working fine.

Did you by chance take a picture of the gear showing the slot ?

if not, no prob.

I own a B7100HST purchased second hand from a tractor dealer here in Melbourne, Australia and its been great buy.

Never tried to get parts for it yet so hopefully its not grey market.

regards
David

Hi David,
Yes the little beast is running well. Had to replace a couple of welch plugs but apart from that it is a good little unit that never ceases to amaze me with its capabilities.

Here is the old bearing. The groove is the only difference between the two parts and doesn't appear to have any function as all other dimensions are exactly the same. Note the two teeth stripped off and a third about to go. The smaller bearing is wider in the teeth and had suffered no damage at all, amazing I thought.

Have fun with your toy.
regards,
Trevor
