Have the little guy up on jack stands and pressure washing, greasing and a general checkover before winter. I checked the engine dipstick and whoa, way over full. How the heck did that happen?!?

Always a new mystery around here to solve. But counting my blessings. Seriously, this is one of the more serious problems I've had for a long time with the 'lil faded orange machine.

three things are possible :

1) YOU overfilled it ( we are gonna rule this one out!)

2) the hydraulic pump is bleeding oil into crankcase - easy to do on these oldie but goodies

3) the lift pump is placing diesel into the crankcase.

Look at dipstick under seat - IS IT LOW? if so .......... hydraulics are the problem.

Does the engine dipstick smell like diesel? Is it very thin? IF so - you found problem

I just replaced my lift pump - come to find out my POS gauge was the problem all along.

Check each and report back!

It MUST be #1. That's easy to fix though.
Hi JR, I hope you’re right and it was a filling error.
I agree with Hokie that it’s not likely if you measure the amount you add when changing. His items 2 and 3 sneak up on you.
Is yours an hst? Mine was leaking at the hydraulic pump seal and it took me awhile to figure it out.

Nah, it's got gears, thankfully. I was running it around today after getting it off the stands and draining a bit of oil off. Running like a champ.
