Hi from Australia

A neighbour just asked me to look at his elderly B7001. The clutch is not releasing at all. Is this a common problem ie a stripped spline on the throw out lever or something like that?

Thanks in advance, folks

Most common issue is the clutch disk rusting to the flywheel.

How does the pedal feel when you push it down?

That was one theory I had come up with, but AFAIK the owner had been driving it that day, and I assume he had been able to operate the clutch normally. I know it does sit for a while between uses so a rusty driven disk is a possibility....

As for pedal feel, I got it going and back to his house and the clutch pedal had full travel, without any clutch action. But there was a chattering noise when the pedal was fully depressed. But it's the first time I've driven it so I've got no previous experience to rely on.

Thanks for your reply, BTW. Appreciate it :)

I had a similar issue with my 7100. It wouldn't fully disengage. Gears would grind when shifting. I had the external adjustment rod maxed out.

I recently did a rear-main job on my tractor and while I it apart I adjusted the pressure plate fingers and brought them up a pretty good bit. Now the pedal travels maybe a 1/4'' before the face of the throw-out bearing contacts the pressure plate fingers. It works great now and no more gear clash.

I would bet if the disk isn't rusted or coated in oil that either the throw-out bearing is worn, or you pressure plate fingers are worn or need readjusted.

Bottom picture is me measuring the fingers getting them even with each other....

G'day, Brandon. Many thanks for that useful information. Much appreciated. I need to talk to the owner now - it won't be a cheap exercise, I suspect.
