Hi, I've been reading the great info on steering box failure. My b7000 has quite a lot of play. I don't know much about steering mechanisms - with play like that do I assume it's the steering box or could it be something else going on? It's fine completely driveable but I want to head off any problems before they cause a major issue.

Also I'm working through replacing oils etc as I've only had the tractor a couple of weeks (work and children get in the way..) Does the steering mechanism need oil I couldn't find anything in the b7100 manual which is the closet one I have to my model (apart from greasing)

Thanks in advance

There's two bearing packs, at the top and bottom of the steering box that the steering shaft go through. Water gets down inside, and they desintegrate instead of holding the shaft in place. This allows you to turn the wheel and free play without turning the arm which moves the tires.

Here's a good video that explains it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJlk3cBjMqo
