Greetings, again :)

removed the engine oil drain plug to find the PO had not used a gasket [as described in the parts book].

however, there was no oil leak at all

what kind of "gasket" should be there-- I have about the right size metal crush washer, but its described as a "gasket"

any advice much appreciated

thanks!

Look Reallly good at the plug.
On the old Aircooled VW's I deal with I got one that looked like there was no gasket, the thing didnn't leak (at that spot) and I thought it was odd w/o the gasket.
I looked at it really carefully and noted the the PO had used an aluminum gasket that had deformed perfectly to look like part of the bolt.
Just look really carefully at the bolt, Otherwise I'd install a copper crush washer.

I have bought replacement plastic gaskets for oil drain plugs (they come in an assortment package) at Advance Auto. I would imagine that would work for you.
