Hi all, anyone have experience changing or adjusting the fan belt on this tractor. I have heard you have to remove the side panel as its pretty hard to get in there. Any tips do i just loosen the idler and adjust the adjustment pulley tighten, then tighten the idler and then button everything back up?

Thanks
JB

Why do you think the V belt needs adjusting? I remind you the engine does NOT have a water pump and the dynamo is a low output charging unit needing little power from the V belt. The cooling fan is also not a high power device.

The idler pulley retaining nut needs to be loosened and then the adjusting bolt used to move the idler pulley to increase tension.

I will admit, it is a wee bit tight in there to do all of that. Taking off the side panel is not that much trouble and would be the best way to do it.

Thank you and thanks for that picture with the exploded diagram, I actually was confused from the manual and that helps a lot. I think the belt is worn and its definitely loose as it wont spin the fan on its own i have to manually get the fan going by knocking it with somthing (gently) then the fan belt and fan spins but the belt is loopy and loose.

You need that fan to spin and spin well - that engine will overheat quickly due the fact there is no water pump - the hot water rises..... and the cold water sinks via convection, Called a thermosiphon system.

I will tell you also that the pulley bolt can be a pita to loosen too. I had to take my radiator off to fix something else and while I was there .....changed the belt and all that. IF you have to take the radiator off - that is very easy and straight forward too - be careful of the petcock at the bottom - that too can snap off rather easily.
