B6000D stalled and wont restart.

Hi all, new to the site , as well as diesel tractors, but have lots of gas engine experience . seems to be a lot of knowledge here

I was pushing snow this morning with the FEL , this unit has always been a little hard starting when cold , but with a charged battery momentary decompression and lots of glow plug it will start , ( sometimes with some afterglow to get it to catch and smooth out )
same thing today , have not used it for a month or so ( usually go weeks between uses anyway) , same start routine as above , ran good once some heat got into the engine and moved a little snow for about 20 mins , then revs rose then dropped to 0rpm/stalled , would not restart , spins over fast like decompression activated , no change as i swing the decomp lever/rod in and out , always run season appropriate fuel , good fluids etc. it was too cold and i have no heat in the shop to tear into it , so i have been searching the site and racking my brain as to what would cause what seems like no compression in a split second.

Check out the decompression cable and linkage, it's possible that something broke causing it to stick open.
Check glow plugs and injectors for something that has come undone.

What North Idaho Wolfman said, that decompression cable is held in place by a clamp. Be sure it's on and in place. You should be able to remove the cable from the lever and move the lever freely by hand. If it does not move freely, lube it with something like PB Blaster or similar product and keep moving it by hand until it is free. Then set the clamp so the lever is open when the cable is pulled.

thanks Wolfman and D2Cat ,I will check that out soon as it warms up a little , I can see the external rod and linkage are o.k. , but i will pull the valve cover off and get a look inside . it would be the most likely , but worst case scenarios have me envisioning burnt or stuck valves , rings or pistons missing or holes , that would be unlikely as it was running decent then stalled with no major carnage or clatter just loss of RPM, then stalling like it was out of fuel , but fuel is full , fuel filter still had clear not waxed or cloudy fuel and when trying to restart it spins over quickly , with no change when I active or close the decomp. rod

ok it was warm enough to pull the valve cover off.... , found one of the rocker arm shaft stands broken , so i removed the rocker shaft and rocker arms , and turned it over while watching the pushrods go up and down and oil pump out of the passages that feed the rocker shaft , but even with all the valves closed (no rockers to actuate them) it still spins over fast like there is no compression i have not gone any further as there was other things that took priority but it looks like i will be at least pulling the head and who knows maybe a full overhaul depending on what i find.

so hoping you guys have a decent source for parts for a guy in Alberta Canada. I get the old "we cant get parts for grey market tractor" from my local Kabota dealer.

I fear the worst so I am thinking complete overhaul or possibly a good running used engine ,plus any tips appreciated .... thanks

Did you read the sticky post(s) in the Gray section? If my memory is still good, I think their were legitimate B6000 which were not gray.

Messicks.com is the best starting point.

Kubota Canada has on line parts lookup. As a Canadian,you cannot get into the Kubota USA site unless you are hiding your location with a VPN.

Getting a part number is step one.

i just thought with the tiller on the back and the aggressive paddle tires it was an import from the rice fields

Are labels in English or Japanese?

Check the rotation of the pto when viewed from the rear or behind the tractor.

Clockwise is what you want to find. Counter clockwise not so good.

Read the Gray as my memory is not good enough to state what you have.

If you have a CCW pto, look in the sticky part of the GRAY section for solutions.

All B6000 have a reverse rotation PTO shaft regardless if its grey or not.
And if I remember correctly several of them even still had Japanese writing on them.

If you give me the Serial # I'll look it up and I should be able to tell you if it's a grey or not.

ok guys and gals , had a chance to pull the head and inspect , found both exhaust valves stuck open slightly and some marks in both pistons from exhaust valve contact. cylinders look good. not sure if i should be concerned about the con rod brg's..... have to still pull the valves to inspect and check the guides. start making my parts list
