Wow, I completely forgot to follow up to this thread. So I figured that before I tear the engine down I better check it with an actual gauge and sure enough there is no problem with the oil pressure.
Cold 1400rpm: 55psi
Cold 4000rpm: 60psi
Operating Temp 1400rpm: 30psi
Operating Temp 4000rpm: 50psi
The lowest I could get the pressure was at warm idle when I hit the 3pt lift to pick up the 500 pound finish mower... then it only dropped to about 23psi. Service manual says the pressure should be 28 - 64 psi.

Here is the option I went with and it has worked awesome. I installed one on my Mitsubishi L3E also.I believe that the oil pressure sensor is 1/8" BSPT --- British pipe thread. If you buy that fitting --- should work. The 1/8" NPT fitting that you get with most all oil pressure gauges will also work --- just wrap it well with tread tape but, ---- it will cross thread so I wouldn't plan to go back to the stock fitting.
