Hi, I'm a newcomer to the forum and to the world of mini tractors. I bought a B4200 yesterday and, whilst looking it over in the garden, I managed to figure out most of the controls, however I am baffled by one. There's a turn knob on top front of the transmission assy with an arrow on it which is pointing to the left. On the right of the housing is a plug. Am I correct in assuming that this is where I could tap in for a secondary hydraulic outlet should I want to run a tipping mechanism?

Is this the handle and plug you are referring to ? The plug is to tap into the hydraulic system as you thought. The handle switches between running the 3 point hitch or sending the hydraulic fluid to the plug. I had a B7100 with the front loader connected to that port. Handle in one position the loader worked. Handle in the other position the 3 point hitch worked.

Hi, thanks for getting back. Yes that is exactly what I was referring to. So the filler plug just by this valve is for hydraulic oil? Could you tell me what type of oil it takes please?
I'm trying to find a free download of the operating manual, no luck as yet

If your tractor is a gear drive transmission then any type of universal tractor transmission oil will work. If it is a hydrostat transmission then Kubota SUDT oil is recommended.

This site provides WSM for $9.95.

B4200 WSM

I have used them for brands and models where any WSM were impossible to find.

Further, if you do not like the material, complain immediately and they usually refund the $9.95.

Look along the right side of your tractor about the middle. You are looking for a rectangular piece of aluminum with steel hydraulic lines entering and leaving. If you have that hydraulic block, your options for connecting more hydraulics to the tractor are much greater.

For example, the 3 pt hitch will still operate if you have a loader.

This is a different style of hydraulic outlet block. Again I do not know if it is on a B4200

Ok thanks for that. So the hydraulics, including attachments run on normal gear oil as opposed to hydraulic fluid?

No - these are common sump tractors and the transmission, final drive, and hydraulics share a common reservoir. The oil is a universal tractor transmission hydraulic oil (UTTF) which you can buy as a generic at places like TSC, NAPA, Walmart, etc. The Kubota branded UTTF is called UDT and comes in two different grades and formulations. The "standard" UDT2 would be what was used in your model and the new hydrostatics use the latest formulation called Super UDT2. (SUDT2) I have used Traveller Premium UTF from TSC in my B7200 since I purchased it in 1992. Its easy to get and inexpensive which is a big plus because the old machine leaks pretty badly.....

Here is a picture of that auxiliary valve you are asking about on my B7200. It has two positions:
  • In the "normal" position the 3pt lift operates as it would without the valve
  • In the AUX or open position it opens the port on the side which is just a tee into the lift cylinder. If your B4200 is the same as my B7200 there is a gated position at the very top of the quadrant on the lift control handle. With the lift handle in that gated position the port on the valve provides a constant flow of oil from the pump. I have a quick connect on the port and use it to power the double acting cylinder on my log splitter. Return oil from the log splitter valve comes back to the loader tank return on the transmission filler. Before connecting anything to that port double check the threads. ISTR it is BSPP but its been a long time and I may be confusing it with the loader valve.

On the B7200 there is also a diverter valve on the side right side of the tractor. This is the primary auxiliary takeoff point for use with the loader and any other rear remote valves you might want to add. That connection is shown in the second image. There is a pump pressure out port and a pump pressure return port on the side of the diverter valve which allows you to daisy chain any number of open center valves off the loader valve. The loader valve and ALL additional valves should be configured for high pressure carry over (aka power beyond) operation and should have their own tank return line going to the return fitting on the transmission (third image).

Thank you Dan for that very detailed information. It doesn't look quite like mine, but definitely food for thought once I decide what I'm going to need in the future, early days yet!!!!
