I am a soon to be new member of the K family! I made a deal on a 2013 B2920 with 600 hours with a dealer who took it on a trade. My plan is to use it for site work on a house we are going to build on Cape Cod.

The B2920 has an old school LA364 loader. My plan was to get a stump bucket to dig out about 40 small pines but they all seem to be quick attach for skid steer and the coupler I need is a 10-12 week wait.

The pine stumps I need to dig out are between 3"-6" in diameter. The lot was cleared about 8 years ago and these are new growth in sandy soil with few if any rocks. I also need to move the pile of topsoil & growth from the original clearing.

Any thoughts on forks or piranha bars for the existing bucket I could bolt on or other attachments for the LA364?

Thanks

If you can get a chain around them, perhaps you can wrap it around 3 or 4 times, then around a draw bar on the 3 pt hitch and pull them up. The 3PH probably will pull harder than the loader. If it won't pull the bigger ones straight out, you can rock them forward and back to help.

If you have 40 stumps to remove as a one time job, consider renting a hoe or CTL for one day and knock them all out. From a cost standpoint, that would likely compare favorably to buying a stump bucket or similar for a one time job.

If you’re going to try it with your tractor, cut them up as high as practical (3 to 4 feet up) so you can get some decent leverage pushing or pulling on it. If you can cut most of the roots off one side with the loader and then push/pull the top away from the rootless side you might have a chance.

If you have, or potentially have, an ongoing need for stump removal your tractor is likely capable of running a stump grinder that will grind much larger stumps than you could ever hope to remove with your tractor with much less stress on the machine. That doesn’t take out as much of the stump as pulling/digging it out so if you’re planning to cut that area down changing the grade of the land or build something on top of it, not a good option. If you’re not changing the grade of the land such that it must be dug out, grinding may be a viable option.

For example, I have used my L to competently grind stumps up to 30”. Might do bigger; that’s just the biggest I’ve done. Digging out a 30” stump with a L4701… not even close.

I had two different Case 580's before I got my Kubota 3301 . I really don't want to think bout pulling a ton of stumps with the Kubota after doing that with the 580's . 1 or 2 maybe . Like NCL suggested high side them when you cut the trees down , your going to want all the leverage you can get ! I seriously doubt that the 3pt on that little tractor would do much besides lifting the front of the tractor off the ground . I think trying to do that with that small loader is alot like pissing up a rope , you really don't want to try that .
YMMV

They may come out easy, I’d try to remove just with bucket and/or push with box blade. Leverage is the key, where possible I push the whole tree down and cut off the roots (stump) . Otherwise, wait for excavator, when doing work, for house!

OK, try to remove the BIGGEST one FIRST ! That'll give you a good idea how long it'll take for the other 39.....
Odds are it'll be faster to rent a miniex or midex. At 10 per hour, that's one every 6 minutes...might not be able to do that ( 1/2 day rental) but for SURE in one 1 day. Maybe plan another job if you have 'free' time left on the rental .

Thanks for all the input. The stumps are relatively small diameter, think Christmas tree size. I am hoping they came out easily in the sandy soil. When the perk test was done, they went down 10' with an excavator and it was all sand, no rocks.

Unfortunately I already cut the trees and left about 12" or so of the trunk. I am hoping to find an ATI Coupler (believe it is KU17) for the LA364 then I can just buy a stump bucket.

Agree it might just be easier to rent a machine with a Hoe for cost of the coupler and a stump bucket but I can then use other attachments with the SSQA if needed.

The ssqa investment makes sense. If the trees are as small and the soil as sandy as you’re saying, i dont think it would be particularly painful going if you still had taller trunks to push against. Since they are already cut so low you are basically down to digging or grinding them out and either is more tedious.

Since you aren’t likely to get a stump bucket attached anytime soon if you’re waiting 10wks for an ssqa adapter, id consider buying a ripper/moddle buster for 3pt since you can get decent ones brand new for $250 and try ripping through the roots along one side and then pushing (or snagging stump near top with ripper and pulling) from that side and see if they go over easily enough like that. Other than that lowish cost experiment i think youd be better served renting a stump grinder if you could, or a decent size excavator.

I do a lot of stump removal and have tried just about every attachment with tractor, track loader and excavator. If your new to you tractor is gong to be your tool, I like the idea of a 3 point, ripper or middle buster recommended above. If you do get a stump bucket it will need to be a light weight version to use with your front end loader.

A small excavator will make very short work of the task and is a lot quicker than a back hoe, it may pay to rent one and get the work done.

Before buying a bucket, make sure you can get a ssqa adapter for it. I don’t believe that ATI makes one that fits. Your B2920 should have a LA364 loader on it and if it does, ATI doesn’t list one for that loader, unless they didn’t get it put on there website.

I had come to the same conclusion, it's not listed on ATIs site. But TractorMike does list it, with a note about it reducing the capacity. Many of ATI's adapters are available from Amazon, but apparently not the KU17. I'd call before I ordered.

I have done a lot of "small" stumps with a variety of "small" tractors in the last 40 years. Buy this and it will breeze through those little pines. I just bought one and its worth every penny.

Or spend a bunch of money on a stump bucket and beat yourself and the trsctor to death.

hmmm.. if you had a use for the SSQA adapter, you'd probably have bought one now, so rent a backhoe or excavator and get the current job(trunk removal ) done. 'Time waits for no man', especially the one whose wife wants the project done NOW..... ;)
While 40 stumps is a lot to do, given the soil conditions, with the right machine, might only take 1/2 day. Kinda depends on how close they are to each other.
