I have a b2710 with fel and looking to build a trailer to haul maple sap from woods to sugar house. I have used truck before but hate when truck is needed for other purpose and turning truck and trailer not option in woods in spring. But can turn tractor with trailer around there. But is it going to be to heavy putting 350lb trailer 80 lbs tank and another 300 gals of sap or can I go bigger and go to a 500 lb trailer, 160 lb tank and 600 gals sap? Also gas can and pump. It has 1 fairly steep hill and 1 short slope but will be down hill when loaded. Then up 8' in 300'drive from road to sugar house

Just for reference, I pulled a lot of 2000+ plus loads of dirt in my 5x8 dump trailer (1300 lbs empty) with my BX2200, up slopes steeper than you are dealing with. Ran out of traction if damp, not power. It would have been a piece of cake with my B2910, same tractor as yours, just a couple more HP.

How much does the sap weigh?

You might want to be pulling with the draw bar, rather than an adapter that uses the 3PH, but the 3PH worked fine on my BX, and was helpful when dumping, not a concern for you probably.

I would expect with your B2710 a trailer/load combination of 4000 pounds would be no issue.

Pulling a load down the hill can become very exciting. Is the hill gravel or mud? The maple sap will be 300 gallon x 8.3 pounds /gallon at least equals 2,490 pounds plus 350 plus 80 plus fuel 40 plus pump 50 equals 3,010 pounds. What does your owners manual say the max weight for a trailer? According to tractor data the tractor only weighs 1741. Do you have weights and loaded tires? What kind of tires? Can you build the trailer with brakes?

Start by referring to the following page in the Owners' manual for your tractor.

This info below is not your tractor!

Read the page carefully as W3 is weight added to trailer and does not include the weight of the trailer itself.

If you are going to be operating in hilly terrain as you mention, then putting electric brakes on the trailer would be wise.

Yes will be looking at adding electric breaks. And the tires arnt but will be loaded turf tires with low profile studded chains have front end loader and front mounted snowblower so plenty of front weight.

Did you think about building a wagon instead of a trailer? Harder to back up but it would lighten the load on the tractor. Do not do a 5 wheel one but one that has automotive type of steering which are much more stable.

Good morning Ikc1990. I have been sugaring my whole life and have pulled many sap trailers threw the woods with different tractors. I currently sugar as a hobby now versus as a business like before. I have a 150 gallon tank on a trailer which I occasionally use behind my B2920, but usually use my Farmall H, because the Farmall handles it better. 300 gallons is going to handle your tractor unless you have no snow, no ice, no mud and perfect conditions. Years ago, we gathered a lot of sap buckets and had a 325 gallon sap trailer behind a 1968 Case 580CK 45HP tractor chained up. At times with snow and mud it was more than the tractor could pull in the woods.
