The upper part of the filter assembly should have little plunger type valve that closes when you remove the filter. When in place the filter opens the plunger allowing the fuel to flow. I would pinch off the fuel line from the tank and remove it. Then clean out the passage way in the fuel filter base. There is probably something stuck behind the plunger valve restricting flow but can't get threw the valve.

Thanks BAP. Yep that is my plan for tonight.

Is the B2650 really self bleeding? I understand the bowl is vented and will fill once hose is reconnected, but what about the lines past the filter. Say like when I remove filter and assembly, the hose past the filter will surely be full of air. Will the system really bleed itself. The manual says is "Air must be removed when: 1. Fuel filter or lines are removed". So yes I am removing lines and the procedure it gives is "start engine and run for about 30 seconds and then stop the engine"

What am I missing? Is it really that simple?

Do I have to get into cracking injectors to let air bleed out?

I don't have any suggestions on your particular issue.

But the 2650 is self bleeding. Essentially. The way the filter bowl works is as you are screwing the bowl back on its filling up and spilling diesel, pushing the air out. So changing the filter never actually introduces enough air into the line to necessitate an old school bleed procedure.

I changed my filter at 200 hours just a few weeks ago. Followed the "procedure" in the manual and it's been normal since. I'm almost at 220 hours.

You may have some bacteria in the diesel causing the sludge. I would treat the tank in a manner consistent for diesel with bacteria.

Ok thanks, eipo.

My plan is to remove the upper portion of the filter assembly also, where the hoses connect. I believe my blockage is possibly in there. So when I remove the upper portion, I will be disconnecting hoses, and from what I can see, I will introduce air to the system on the hose running from the filter to the fuel pump. Now I see possibly a vent hose on top of the mechanical fuel pump, so possibly the system is self bleeding?

What sort of sludge are you getting out of the line? Sounds like it could be algae in your tank. The problem will keep happening until you treat/clean the tank. Use compressed air to clean out those little passageways you're talking about and the line from the tank to the filter.

Any suggestions where and what kind of treatment for algae? Local truck stop sells a number of additives but none specifically mentioned algae. The PS white bottle and Optilube that I use don't mention it either.

Power Service and others make a treatment specifically for algae. You may have to go to a good auto parts store like Napa to find it.

Oliver, just fixed mine. It turned out to be something clogged in the 90 degree elbow from the tank hose to the filter. That elbow has a shutoff that closes as you unscrew the bowl, so fuel doesnt leak out when bowl is off. On that shutoff/elbow, there was a piece of plastic stuck causing the issue. Not sure if you checked that shutoff, but is a likely spot for things to get stuck.

Thanks Mike I'll check it there just to be sure. It's running fine now after a dose of algaecide and the algae fuel cleaner. I hope I'm over with this now! I will be using a maintenance dose every so often now though.

Sumrall, Mississippi,
My M4900 was behaving the same as your tractor. After weeks of frustration, I looked down in the tank with a flashlight. A piece of aluminum foil out of the cap of a diesel additive bottle would float over the bottom opening of the tank. If I added fuel it would wash the foil off the opening and the tractor would run fine until the foil would again cut off the fuel. I snaked out the foil and have had no problems since.

I had the same exact problem...
