Just wondering has anyone done a "dipstick" measurement versus
quantity indicator markings. I measured mine with the quantity indicator showing two bars, my stick measured 4 inches of fuel in the tank. Have no idea what that is in gallons or portion there of.

Most of these fuel tanks are so irregular in shape that a gauge is still hit and miss, the tank on the BX looks like two large bubbles and depending on what slope or hill - it would still be a crap shoot to tell you exactly how much fuel is in the tank vs the gauge or the stick. You tank is not quite as bad in design I dont think.

In the old Ford 8n days, you could use the measuring stick and get a damn good guess as to how many "gallons" of fuel you had left.

Here is what I suggest - when the gauge reads under 1/2 full, I would keep in my mind that I need to fill back up within the hour - or when I park it. Running low and then hitting a hillside are two things that will ruin your day.
And I am sure you could run the machine for more than 3 hours on that 1/2 tank.....but unless fuel is scarce - top her off and be safe.:)

If your wanting to know exactly how much fuel you have left at a certain point on your gauge. First know how much it hold then load it it up and take it to the station so you'll have metered fuel.

It's a crap shoot with the gauges. My L3000 will be on empty and it still has 2 gallons in the tank. My M9000 is as close to being dead on the money as any piece of equipment I've ever operated. You just never know what you have until it's tested and proven.

I refill my B2650 when the fuel gauge gets down to two bars. It's been my experience that tractor fuel gauges are highly unreliable, so I don't take any chances on running out of fuel.

It would be nice with all of these odd shaped fuel tanks if they put a fuel consumption gauge on the instrument panel. It could be a cheap addition for tractors with electric fuel pumps, by counting the pulses of the fuel pump. They use fuel pump pulses on the newer cars and trucks with mpg and fuel consumption readouts on the computers. At least on my truck with the direct injection the fuel reading is super accurate. With a little research I think I could build one, but someone with more electronics background could probably do it quicker and better.

Actually there is a similar screen on mine, gives total gal of fuel used and ave mpg. I don't think it gives instantaneous mpg like a truck does. I just never thougnt to use it that way, good idea. The fuel gauge is a little iffy on mine too. I usually check fuel levels with a flashlight.

On my truck I reset when I fill up and check the gallons used on long trips to determine when to fill up. If I use 30 gallons out of the 36 gallon tank the accuracy is within 1/4 gallon. Maybe your gallons used would be more accurate then the fuel level gauge or the flashlight.

I know that as soon as my B2650 goes from 2 bars to 1 bar is when I shut her down and pour a 5 gallon can of fuel in there. Gets me up to all bars. Takes a whole 5 gallons.

I topped off and it took 6 gallons. That says I had 1.1 gals remaining. Now I know 2 bars is fill up time. It is possible I ran it a little when bar 2 first showed.
