I have a new to me B2601 that was gently used by its previous owner. I bought it from a dealer that told me it was serviced and ready to go. I did a cursory oil check before loading it up and taking it home.

It was raining when I got home so, I caught a 30 minute break and mowed a little by the house to knock down some tall grass by the driveway and put it up. Everything went as expected with nothing noteworthy out of the ordinary. I own an L4600 and have spent a lot of time on BX tractors FWIW.

Now that the dew has burned off, before the SuperBowl, I was going to mow a little more. However, the transmission oil dipstick, the yellow one on the rear is low, actually not touching the stick. I don't have a loader and the MMM has been lowered to the ground. I'm guessing it 'burped' some air post-service somewhere in the system and now is a little low.

Since I don't have an owner's manual, I want to make sure I know where to put the oil and that I'm not doing something silly like checking with the engine off when I should be doing that with it running! Go ahead, set me straight, I can take it if it's a new ower mistake!

The oil fill is that little rubber plug by the back of the seat isn't it?

Thanks,
Sid

p.s. Previous threads didn't really answer my question, at least the ones I found ... ;)

Yes on the location of hydraulic oil fill cap, you should check the hydraulic oil with the engine off. Sometimes when I check the dipstick it barely shows oil but if I put the dipstick back in it will show full

Owned lots of tractors and my B2610 has got to be the hardest tractor ever to see the oil level. Make sure your on level ground with the engine off. I like to remove dipstick and wipe it clean, then recheck it again with the light hitting it just right so you can see it. Have also removed dipstick and pressed against a paper towel to get a level.

The yellow dipstick is hard to read a level on. I use a black zip tie and hold it at the proper length. They hold a lot of oil, so a little low below the dipstick is no big deal. Sometime some is lost during a filter change or disconnecting the loader etc.

A similar question; correct to have the 3-point in the down position on a 2650, to check hydraulic fluid?

Thanks.
