It's leaves on the ground season. Since Kubota doesn't offer a mulching kit for the B series MMM, I am considering blocking the discharge chute in an attempt to mulch up the leaves rather than just blow them around the property.
Has anyone done this with any success?

Or would it be a waste of time, energy and money?

Thanks.

You could take a section of 4by4 post, cut and fit and screw it into the chute, see what happens.
For 'best' ? results I'd think close to the blade side of the chute not the 'exit' side of the chute ?

John - it seems like someone tackled a similar thing here on OTT in the last few months.

They pondered metal or UHMWP.

I can’t search well from my phone, but pretty sure someone tried it. Try the Search function for “mulch” or similar. If I’m on a computer I’ll try to remember to look too.

Honestly, I’ve used the G6 Gator blades on my MMM for several years. My yard is full of Sugar Maples. Haven’t seen a need to block the chute. They’re not great all-around, but they do a good job on leaves. I’ll continue to use them.

The topic of the kubota mulch kit (after extensive research) is...it's junk.

It seems the engineers invested more time on it/them for their riding mower/garden tractors, though when it come to anything past that category/use/application, they stopped making them.

I posted an image (don't remember where) here in a topic about their mulch kit, that depicts a design how it needs to be made. For effectiveness, there is no other way.

The chute does get blocked with a full time mulch kit, but it's part of the baffle system. The kit/type I'm referring to is used on a John Deere 54HC Full Time Mulch Kit BM23977

This is the kit installed.
It worked great on my previous JDX739.

I appreciate the input.

I think after Christmas, I'm going to load my tractor up on the trailer and take it to a local metal fabricator and see what they would charge me to build me a bolt on chute blocker.

I will report back along with photos to help anyone else who is thinking about this.

aw you're just GREEN with envy ! :giggle:
What it does show though is you NEED the 'whole package', the block AND the semi circles of steel walls. Those DO the real, effective mulching . Withought them ,the clippings will travel here, there, anywhere and may not get cut into itty, bitty pieces.

Foe a decade+, I've just run the mower, on highest cut ONCE the leaves are DRY. Then a few days later again, but with deck set at 3 or 4. This seems to really chew them up.

Probably a waste of time and money. A block off plate will make it mulch a little better on one side of one blade. Look at the JD photo above. Each blade needs to be able to recut the leave to mulch them. Sure they will get cut up somewhat without those baffles, but not nearly as much. But maybe that’s all you need? You might try it with no block off plate and then with a temporary wooden block off plate held on with straps to see if you think it’s enough improvement to warrant the effort.
