All, Have a b2400 HST with 423 hrs. Sent to dealer to determine the what was wrong with the hydro. Being told catastrophic failure in the hydro, replacement part alone around $4,400 not including ancillary parts and labor. Thoughts on repair vs part-out? Purchased used for 9,500 3 yrs ago, Always serviced by dealer at required intervals, aside from this issue, was good, clean unit. Thoughts please?

If repair, best place to source parts and local mechanic to South East PA?

Thanks!

This is the way I see it.

5 options:

1- Have the dealer repair it for at least half the cost or more of the price you paid for the whole tractor.
Personally, I don't like dealers of any kind, so that wouldn't be my choice. Plus I'm too cheap.

2- Sell it.
Unfortunately it would be in non-running condition and you may get what the the cost of the repair would be (3-4K).
Of course that depends on the condition of the rest of the tractor and the market where you live.

3- Part it out.
That's a BIG pain. Too many issue's with that to list.

4/5- Find a used unit an fix it yourself or tear the HST apart and buy the parts you need and again...fix it yourself.
A: Do you make money with this tractor?
B: Can you afford to have it down for an extensive period of time?
If the answer to A is no, and Yes to B, my vote would be fix it yourself.

Best way to learn is doin!

This site is a great resource.
Members are very willing to give advice/information to someone who is actively doing a repair.

If you decide to fix it, take lots of Pic's and make sure you post it here.

That's all the advice I have.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advise and direction.

Don't use it for commercial use, just keeping me from projects around the farm that need doing. Would enjoy taking on the project myself but frankly don't have the time. Besides, i'm excellent at ripping apart, putting together is another story.

Currently talking with a few guys in my area who i know are more than capable to do the job if i can find the part. Will keep you updated on the progress and if I do decide to tackle the project myself, will defiantly need to pick everyone's brains more.

Thanks again

With only 423 hours on the tractor it seems somewhat out of the norm for catastrophic failure. Did they identify the failed part(s) and perhaps what the root cause was?

Here's a place that has used stuff with a continually revolving inventory and not too far from you. https://www.wengers.com/parts.html

Good luck!
