Fitting a 78 amp Delco Alternator into my B2400 to run light bar and back LED's, need to understand how to delete factory Voltage Regulator and run the new wires (2 spade connections and 1 Batt post connector), any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Chuck

let me ask the dumb question first.........
will your current dyno not handle that amperage?

Not even at a faster idle, added LED Headlight bulbs 1156, a 22" light bar and 2 LED Small floods to the rear. Used them to light up a trailer we were loading, ran it for 2 hours and battery was dead, had to jump it. After looking at the wiring coming out of the voltage regulator, I'm thinking that the RY and WR are the 2 that get connected to R1 and 2 on the alternator, but not sure which go to where.

Top pic connection into voltage regulator, bottom is coming from the regulator.

easier and 1000% more reliable to put a kubota alternator on it, look at a bx tractor they have alternators and not dynamo's and last nearly forever, which is more than I can say about a GM alternator

then you have to figger out what the voltage regulator wires do, study the wiring diagrams

VR is built in - so this can run straight to battery

My experience is that the charge bulb is critical in having the GM alternator turn on. Too low a bulb wattage and charging may not happen or require the engine to be rev'd up significantly before it turns on.

There is a technique to turn the Delco installation into a one wire one with a jumper eliminating the charge indicator bulb completely.

Just unplug the existing regulator connector.
