Hi looking at doing the hop, skip and jump to getting a more modern and... tractor and leaving my B-5100DT for other task and I've landed on the B series, B2320DT Gear drive that is. It's a couple of grand higher than the BX's listed in areas CL, except for one with 41hrs. on it. The B has 441 hrs. and comes with a Kubota 36" tiller and Wood's Rotary and just been serviced and inspected by K. dealer. I really don't need those two implements and was told they were willing to take an offer for just tractor and FEL (can't find what their worth alone, What do you think? wait for B to come along with a Hydra to come along. I plan on meeting with BX owner to look at and drive the BX which is only 500 less than the B2320DT at 15K asking price. I plan on going by the area Kubota dealer and see what they know of in the region and their thoughts.
I've read the Bx's are a little vulnerable if one were to venture to far into tree line.
I'd like my next tractor to be able to do whatever is demanded of it.

Deciding gear vs hydro depends on what you plan to do with it. If you were going to blow snow, till or mow, hydro has advanatges. Hydro really shines for loader work. If those are less important to you, straight gearbox would be your ticket.

The hydro models cost more and have better resale, if thoze would matter.

Could not have said it better .

I had gears for years - I have 3 HST now and I do not think I would consider a gear UNLESS it was too cheap to pass up.

Strike-Out the words “mow” and “till”. Gear is favored for mowing….also good for tilling….and uses less fuel to do it.
Lots of back-and-forth with a loader, etc tho’….HST will be more convenient although gears will do it also…just more work for the operator.

Does a B2320 gear drive have a two stage clutch? I do not know the answer to this but I would guess it does not have a two stage clutch. When operating certain types of implements such as a rear finish mower, bush hog or snow blower the ability to stop tractor motion without stopping the power to the implement is quite important

Well I guess it depends on what kind of mowing or tilling. Mowing at my place involved lots of tight places where the HST came in very handy. Open fields are a different story.

The tiller I used wanted a really slow crawl speed that would have been tough for my gear tractors to provide. No such issue with the HST though.

I guess everyone has their own situation and what works for one may not be good for another.

I see your point, Grandad…. If I knew I would be tilling a lot with a geared tractor I’d probably buy one with “Creeper” gear.

Thanks everyone for sharing. Well, I take in a BX tomorrow, and Hydro with no whine around the dealer yard. This is about the same (similar) footprint at the B5100 but a lot nimbler and quicker. Have to make sure I don't a project I'm not ready to finish, getting use to it. The B5100DT will move on for BX implements, bye my first:cry:. there a big loss of loader strength (hyd) between B series and the BX, It's just that the B2320 didn't fit well around my place, I'd have to raises the overhanging canopy to fit in places. The hyds. of the B2320 on the BX chassis. Yes, I ordered the component shield.

Congratulations. Great little tractors, can do a lot for such a small unit. I miss mine... had it for 15 years, but we got old and sold out.

Be thoughtful what you drive over. Ground clearance is not bad with the mower deck removed but the underbelly leaves hoses, filters and cooling fans exposed.
