Hi, I'm a newcomer so don't laugh too much!
I bought a B2150, non runner. It has 7700 hours on the clock and was running until a year ago when it was parked up outside at an airport. for a full year!

It turns over no problem. Fuel system had a lot of dirt in it. There was dirt both sides of the filter. I have taken all pipes of the fuel system and blown them out with an air line. A lot of dirt came out. Changed filter twice.

Tractor seems to come close to starting but just doesn't make it. There doesn't seem to be any air left in the lines. Watched the video on bleeding ( can't see a decompression lever any where though).

It seems to take a while before the tractor fires well when turning over to start. Certainly creates lots of smoke after she turns over for a while, but not much at the beginning.

I was considering as my next move to do a compression test just to see if all cylinders are actually intact.

Is there a risk the injectors are blocked with dirt?

I have the air filter off and as an aid to try to assist starting I had held a burning oily rag at the intake! ( I know its a caveman tactic but as you can gather I am desparate!)

Any advice please?

If you had dirt after the fuel filter, I think it's likely that the injectors are plugged with dirt also. I would either replace them or have them serviced.

Glow plugs if not working could be a contributing factor.

Many thanks. Much appreciated.

The glow plugs work. I took them out, cleaned them all around the connections and tested them off a battery. Glowing red.

I think I'll try the injectors first.

I had another guy at home who told me again this morning that a compression test isn't a bad idea as a process of elimination - do you know what size of threads would be in the glow plugs if i go that route?

Also, i was trying to remove an injector and it didn't move easily. I got the fuel lines disconnected and i ended taking the top of one injector. This was more as a learn as you go style than perhaps the right way. i got to the point where the top came off an injector and exposed a little spring and a cap. The remaining bit of the injector seems to be the important bit... but it didnt budge easily.

Should I be turning it clockwise or counter clockwise? Also, is there a torque setting for putting them back in?

Thanks.

Ok they work when you auxillary power them but have you checked that power is going to them when you turn the key?

Don't do anything else to the injector until you have all the info you are ok with or you will be in trouble. The threads on the injectors are normal RH,anti clock to undo and you should have the socket/wrench on the lowest hex .I have a special deep socket that fits over the injector the same way a spark plug socket does.
Can you post a picture of the injectors on the engine?

:) Joy has been experienced! All advice received on the forum was good. I had the injectors refurbished at a local engine specialist and it was not very expensive to do compared to buying new ones. I bought the socket to fit over the injectors (after i nearly damaged one... definitely listen to Daves advice .. it was a 27mm injector socket required). I had the cylinders pressure tested and compression was very low .. (100, 100, 75, and 50 psi)but it didn't put me off. I had to go way beyond recommended torque even with new copper washers to seal the injectors. blead the fuel system for about 30 seconds and the B2150 burst into life... no problem. Blasting a bit of oil vapour out of the breather... but with pressure ratings like i tested what would you expect. Machine going as well as i would expect... well enough for my son to tow an 8 foot land roller and roll 5 acres of grassland. Great! thanks to all who helped. Great forum.
