B21 stuck low range

My older B21 recently got stuck in low range and it doesn't seem like the clutch will disengage so I can shift to medium or high range. It still starts and works but only in low range. I wonder if there is an easy way to troubleshoot and fix. I looked briefly at linkage and nothing looked obviously bent.

2 bolts on the shift lever may have loosened slightly and now won't allow the lever to disengage low and select high, or the linkage rods have loosened with same result. The lever needs to disengage at neutral position from one to the other, they need to be lined up to slide across in the neutral position, if the lever has slipped, it won't line up to drop one and grab the other. Select neutral and look down your lever and it should be lined up with the 2 x elbow brackets to drop one and go into the other. Which I doubt will be lined up.

before you get too crazy.... drive backward about 20 to 50 feet. then see if it will come out. May take more than once.

This is an old 4wheelers trick. It helps the system un bind what ever bound up little thus making it hard to get out of low range. Getting stuck in low.... tends to happen more with older rigs.... and esp. if it was in low a while.

good advice from coach...one additional trick is to use the hoe and lift the rear wheels off the ground (use front bucket if in 4wd). That makes em shift pretty nice and in and out of 4wd like butter.
