New member here... I'm trying to do a complete maintenance service on my dad’s B1550 HST Kubota. It has not been serviced in over 3 years since he passed away and I want to get it in tip top shape. So far I have changed the oil, oil filter, fuel filter, replaced the gear oil in the front axle, greased all the grease points and replaced the coolant. I am currently trying to replace the hydraulic transmission fluid.

I found 3 plugs on the bottom of the tracktor; 1 right under the front PTO and 2 on each side of the rear axle. When removed the HST oil filter I can tell that not all the hydraulic fluid has been drained. Also, the HST dipstick shows a considerable amount of hydraulic fluid still in the transmission. Does anyone know of anymore drain plugs for the transmission fluid? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hmmm...I'm not familiar with that particular model but there may be drain plugs at the bottom of the wet brake housing on both sides. They look like normal bolts. Maybe those are the ones you already found.

You could measure how much fluid you got out and compare it with the capacity - probably too late now. If you are really brave you could just refill with the amount of fluid it calls for and see where it is on the dipstick (or put some in, check, put more in, check, etc.)

Be sure to wipe off the dipstick before checking it again.

You may have a strainer like the BX models do on the lower part of the transmission case.

At any rate, find the lowest possible drain plug and see what comes out. Kubota didn't make these tractors to be hard to service.

A photo may help someone diagnose the problem that is more knowledgeable than I.

as GWD said, make sure you clean all the oil strainers. It's the main source of "my hydrostatic tranny is whining" and "my hydrostatic tranny is weak/slipping" threads over the internets

According to my service manual, there are three drain plugs for transmission hydraulic fluid. Then you should replace the filter cartridge but there’s also a strainer to strainers that need to be clean but I don’t know where they’re located. It doesn’t show me, but it says they should be cleaned. If you’re going to change hydraulic fluid anybody knows where they’re located please let me know transmission fluid is 14.3 US quarts that’s a lot of hydraulic fluid.
